DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I thought I would start a thread detailing the work undertaken on my 912.
I bought it a month ago, partly because I regretted selling my old 73 911T and partly because the markets going a bit mad and it might not be achievable to do it in future.

It looked like this


As posted previously, it has a couple of rust issues from a leaky sunroof, which are well on the way to be rectified.

I had every intention of dropping a hot vw motor in it and creating a bit of an outlaw or hot rod. However, when the owner said "and I've got this" a 3.0 sc motor mated to its gearbox, erm, I blew the budget!

As I have the narrowest garage which is already home to this ongoing project


So the 912 went straight to the local Peugeot dealers!!! My mate is a painter there and will be doing the honours when we get to that bit.

It's since been painted bright green.

I've bought the EB Motorsport panels for the backdate. I didn't intend on buying the rs panels but I have a think for the ducktail. I can always switch them around late if I change my mind.






No pic of the bonnet yet.

I have also bought some metal panels, a bonnet with orange bar badge, a wing and a bumper, all be they in a bit of a sorry state at present.

How do I tell which model the bumper is from? Can anyone help?

Can't help with the bumper year but I do know oil will never come out of those Tegulas! Just spent a few weekends trying to tidy up the worst spotted areas - cat litter, sand, vim, a gallon of swarfega, petrol and matches, nothing touches it - and have resorted to turning them over instead and vowing to fix the leaky BMW six...

Difficult to tell on the picture but looks like it could be a SWB front bumper. Andy will be along shortly to confirm.

Going by the foglamp openings I'd agree with John - swb.

Thanks for that. I thought it looked the same as those listed as SWB but I don't know the differences between them yet.

Luckily that's just crud off the bumper. I was forced to give it a clean in the entrance - the garage is 35 foot long but only 8 ft wide! With shelving, the 3.0 lump, the bug, tools and porsche parts stacked up, I'm forced to work in the door way or squeezing everything past the bug.

A by product of swearing blind I wasn't going to buy any more cars, I settled for a small garage. Seems like a good idea when you have years of house renovation and extension building ahead, but when that stops the car bug bites again!

Loads of work done on car including the graft of the dansk indicator housing panel.

And the other side is done. Just a bit of tidying left to do.
The front edge of the 930 wings have been extended by 10mm.

Plodding on with the body work. It's become apparent that other than the sunroof leak ant the lower screen, the car is rock solid. No signs of accident damage or rust. Factory lead work (I think) is still in tact.
I had no intention of bare metalling the car but given the condition of everything it seems daft not to. Pans are original and in excellent condition. The only repairs needed are some reshaping due to overzealous jacking!

And this is the modified 930 wing with the dansk lower indicator panel grafted in,a 10mm extension and primed. It took approx 17hrs to do both. Luckily my hourly rate made it more reasonable than buying wings. As you can see in the pics above, there's very little filler.

There's not really been any welding required other than the front scuttle and rear seats, but the prep has continued (at a snails pace).
We now have primer on the body and the wings and doors will be redone to match.


I was pretty firm on a light grey and orange colour combo but now I'm not so sure.
Factory colour was black. Something is telling me to go with one of the brighter colours; orange, green or yellow..........I'm not so sure now.

Finally got it in paint. Colour decision made on the day of painting after firs painting the engine lid beige grey.
