DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I`m starting to think about selling my 911 and I don`t have a clear idea of how much it`s worth.

I`d prefer not to ebay it... or Auction it for that matter and so to advertise it I would need a starting price.

For those who haven`t seen it for a while/are unfamiliar, my car is a 1968 2.0S, matching numbers, in non original Albert Blue. I would say it`s a good driver, the syncromesh on second isn`t brilliant and there is rust starting to make an appearance at the bottom of the drivers door, bottom of the front wings and spots on the back bumper. Shut lines could do with tidying up, although Lee Peacock has always said this is do able.

Looking on the bright side, I`ve looked after this car as well as I could. The brakes are restored, the carburetors have had much love bestowed on them, rebuilt by Canfords, it runs MSD, has SSI heat exchangers and SS silencer. Mot`s till next July. Loads of receipts, as they say.

I`ve owned the car for 6 or seven years and have put about 30k on the clock.

Mike, clearly you are well liked on this forum and nobody wants to put a price on it out of fear of offence. I could suggest something quite low and then people could pile in in your defence and tell me how I don't know anything etc etc.....?

F*ck it, £18k with rusty doors, but mention it's previous owner is Kev McClouds' brother and that could add another £10k

I've not had a detailed look, but :

If I had £50k to spend I'd buy it. If I had £60k I might, but I'd look at some other stuff too. If I had £70k I'd get something else.

Keeping the right car then?
Don't know how much the 911 is worth as I know bugger all about them!

Any mention of rust is a killer of value.
A buyer may ask why it hasn't been sorted. Is there more that the seller is aware of but not admitting to, so is wary of getting it sorted himself? Or has he not looked?
These days buyers are looking for (or should be ) the best cars, in need of no, or minimal work. Any sniff that the car is a potential restoration candidate is enough to put most buyers off. The market is then limited, but not solely, to dealers or restorers, who will obviously be looking to profit from the restoration. The other downer is the non-original colour, which may entail just a respray, but will require at minimum door skins and front wings, possible rear bumpers, oh, and while we are at it, a gearbox rebuild.

What do you think is the minimum amount of work to bring it to nice, original condition?

Always loved the colour and the stripes. Incorrectly assumed it was always blue. What was it originally?

In pound notes ? I`m even less sure about that figure than how much my car is worth.

This does seem to be the favoured way of pricing these cars, establish a figure for the car if it were in nice 'original' condition, work out how much must be spent to achieve that condition, then subtract one from the other to get the present value.

Now there are three figures I don`t know.

So making a start Nick, how much would you say a 1968 2.0s in nice original condition be worth ?

Morning Steve, The car was originally Dolphin Grey, painted special order as that was a 356 colour.

Hello Mike, Dolphin Grey, what a great colour. I suspect restored back to original spec in that colour it would be an easy car to sell. Without seeing it and assessing the issues which you openly state, it is difficult to state an exact price. But don't forget what the car is. A RHD 68S, that is a rare car. If it helps give me a call we can talk about prices etc.
