Outlaw/Carrera style filler cap

Post by shambly »

My first order from eMachineshop came back today - a handle to weld to an early VW filler cap for my soon-to-be through-the-bonnet fuel filler (laser cut from 3mm steel). Turn around time from ordering in the USA to it being in my hands was just 10 days.

Economies of scale mean that i've actually had a batch of these cut as it was almost the same price as making just one(!!), in the hope that I can sell these to other people wanting to achieve the same effect.

Handles are £7.50 including post to UK to fellow DDK members if anyone is interested??..

Outlaw filler cap

Post by haasad »

I'll have one, call me on 01305 203046 in working hours to let me know where to send the money. I am near Dorchester so not too far to send it!

Which VW part is the cap to weld it to ? :?

Keep the faith.

Sent a few of these out - the filler cap i've used is VW part 111 201 551.

Just received back from eMachineshop my own design CNC adaptor today to allow me to use the original handle without modification on my new tank (with a std 4" PCD flange and spill tray, both from ThinkAuto). Had four made, so will part with a couple.

Maybe I should buy a couple more caps and make a couple of complete sets with my spare adaptors, to sell

My adaptor is CNCd from T6 aluminium, rather than steel, and is compatible with aero filler parts.

Think my handles look nicer too

Cap adaptor

Shambly.

Cool looking kit. Since I had one of your handles its only fair you let me buy an adaptor and possibly spill ring.

e-mail me the price my tank is alloy and I really need an alloy fitting to accept the cap.

Cheers

Outlaw/carrera fuel cap

Post by defender47 »

Hi Shambly,
Wish I'd seen your post before. I have a '59 A that I've just finished. The
guy I bought it from had the alloy trunk lid with the cole cut. He had a Aston Martin/D Type flip top type filler which I think looks too 'In yer face'.
Was hoping to find the original 'fin type cap so if you have any left complete with neck i would be very interested. I have already the spill tray.
Please let me know.
Thanks
Regards
Paul

Paul,

I still have plenty of handles and one filler neck left, so I can supply you a set. I sourced my filler cap itself from Karmann Konnection. I'll dig out the part no. for you.
