A Call For Support - Please!
Hi,
I'm a newbi to this Forum, but a long-time owner of a 1966 "Type 901" 911, and a thoroughly addicted Porsche fan!
I'm happy to say that my car has been selected into the last 30 of this years "Classic Car Of The Year" awards where the winner is to be chosen be a public vote, and therefore I’m on the look-out for support!
If you have a moment please could you visit http://www.CCOTY.co.uk to register a vote for "Porsche 911 Type 901 1966". If it's lucky enough to win I will be auctioning the prises to raise money for a local hospice charity.
The car in question is GVB 911D, it's a very early Right Hand Drive UK car, it was actually one of the first RHD examples imported by AFN in 1966, and was used for the Motor Magazine road test at the time.
It was then borrowed by Vic Elford to win the first televised Rally Cross event in 1966. Where is was battered and bruised by the works Ford Cortina's of Roger Clark and Brian Miela.
No use as a demonstrator anymore, it was fixed up and prepared for "saloon" car racing (back in 1967 / 1968 the 911 was classed as a saloon car by virtue of the +2 rear seats).
Elford used it to win the 1967 British Saloon Car 2.0L Championship. Including class wins at Silverstone and Oulton Park.
In 1968 it was sold to Nick Faure who campaigned in very successfully for two years in many races.
Through the 70's it remained off the road, waiting for a blown engine to be fixed. Then in 1982 my Dad bought it (when I was just 9).
He and I Rallied it through the 80's and 90's (on Tarmac events), it had another few quite years in the early 2000's and then in 2010 I fulfilled a long head dream to race it again.
Since then I have used it a few more races and sprints, and am thoroughly enjoying every aspect of owning it! (If you were at the Goodwood Revival last week, it was the red car on the Porsche display behind the paddock).
Thanks very much.
Rob

Welcome to DDK, your car needs no introduction here, it's a real part of 911 history.

Re: A Call For Support - Please!
If I am not mistaken your car (which Nick says is very well known to us) is the nearest chassis number on DDK to mine. I think they were both built in august 66.
Good luck with the vote and the charity auction should you win.
Regards
Mike

Thanks everyone for your kind words and warm DDK welcome!
Thanks also to everyone who has place a Classic Car Of The Year vote.
The voting closes in just two days, so if you haven't yet done-so please do click on http://www.CCOTY.co.ukand help to put a 911 at the top of the list.
bjmullen, I love that picture of Nick Faure and co. sitting on top of the Transit van. makes me want to go buy one to use as a support vehicle - not sure my misses will follow the same thought process though!
Mike, GVB 911D is indeed an August 66 build, registered in the UK on September 4th that year.
Regards,
Rob

Welcome to DDK. Here is a picture I took of your car at the Revival. It was looking good.

Re: A Call For Support - Please!
Wow fantastic support - thank you all very much indeed!
DustyM, that's a top picture, I really struggled to get a good shot next to that plastic wall, but with the people and a spot of "period" Photoshop you have made it look absolutely great - thank you for sharing.
Simon, a coffee and a chat would be great.
