DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I've managed to pick up a set of fuchs part No 911036102000 which I think are early deep sixes but not sure. My problem is that they are fully polished but the coating is more like a crome than polished aluminium and has what look like dimples all over it, they look great fron a distance but not close up. I intend to detail them but do I need to remove this coating? if indeed it is coated, it is not an adonized finish, any advice welcome or recomendations on someone local that could do it for me.

You could contact Nick on this site, whom does fuch refinishing.
It sounds like the wheels you have, may have been chromed. They are also the early style flat 6x15 (3 prong caps). If your happy with the finish you can detail them your self, just take your time and mask then up as per an original.

Highly polished Fuchs wheels can look as though they have been chromed as the finish is that bright.

You may be lucky & find that the wheels have been 'clear-coated' after polishing & that it is this finish that is 'dimpled'.

Unfortunately some uneducated people do chrome Fuchs & it really is one of the worst things you can do to them...

well I now know that I have early flat sixes thanks for the link Alan very informative. They are not cromed so it looks like they have been clear coated, will I need to remove this from where I need to paint or just etch prime over the top?

I have a pair of fuchs that have been chromed and I know as soon as they hit the roads of uk the chrome will flake. Can I take them to the chromers to have all the chrome removed?

Sorry to step on your thread lewis but its a related question.

The chroming process can cause embrittlement leading to cracking of the wheels - de-chroming can have the same effect ...

A plating company can remove chrome and virtually any other finish that may be on there so that should be the solution (ha ha) for Lewis and DS. The rims should then be polished and optionally anodised and detailed. Oddly enough I can do the whole lot for you
