i found this forum whilst googling about early 911's so thought i'd sign up. I'm a serial classic mini owner and into classic cars generally. i have a 2L 16v '72 mini clubman and currently selling a 67 MGBGT to make way for a 911 replica kit. its a covin which is a dirty word in some circles but i'm planning to a outlaw/rod style makeover to it. so early bumpers, narrow arches. skinny fuchs alloys etc etc. its on a 67 beetle pan and the fibreglass shell is ideal for the look I want. if anybody saw the black 912 in UltraVW magazine a few months back then thats what i'm going for... likewise the fleet owned by Magnus Walker is inspirational.

Welcome, not much Covin content on here I'm afraid but be interesting to see your progress.

regular covins are based on the 80's wide arch turbo 911's which really isn't my thing. i'm a big fan of 60's design and the 911 is iconic. lilewise 365's and their replica's. the problem is having messed about with classic cars for 18 year, i've kinda had enough of metal/rust/welding....fibreglass is appealling I've been looking at early 911-912s for a couple of years but this covin came up locally and was a cheap base to achieve the look i want.

sounds like a fun project .. look forward to seeing how it turns out. Not sure I've seen a 'backdated' covin

Is it the one that was for sale in Newcastle or thereabouts? At £300 I was tempted. I even started a thread about doing exactly what you propose. I bought a 914 instead.

i think there has only been one covin that was converted to narrow arches, like a 911 sc with the impact bumpers. There isn't one done like an early pre'73 911/912.
