1961 IWL Berlin

Bought as three crates of parts in March 2010 from a man up north. Resto took about a year. Did all the usual powdercoating, engine rebuild with 12v generator, electronic ignition and Bing carb. Decoded parts lists and maintenance manuals from German, learnt lots of useless new words like Motorzugangsluke and Fußbremseschalter. Kept what bits I could, but bought lots of new stuff, and of course, spent too much.

Beautiful engine and lovely design touches taught me that not everything made in East Germany was crap. I had the bodywork painted RAF Blue-Grey because I like the colour and thought it suited it better than the original kitchen-appliance-type scheme.

Made sure the mechanicals are spot on, allowed the paint to get a bit knocked-about. Use it lots, mostly at WOT. Slow, long and a bit reluctant to corner, but being two-stroke, extremely difficult to ride in a civil manner. Great fun :)
