I'm sure that many on here will disagree.

It is not entirely without foundation.

How many early cars had replacement engines ? Quite a lot.

The Mag cases in 3R / 5R and 7R versions did need time-certing and line boring due to pulled studs, the valve guides did often need replacing within 40,000 miles of new, the cam chain tensioners have now mostly been replaced with the 3.2 hydraulic retro-fit ----

But, fixed they were.

Yes the problems were much worse in the USA where the catalytic converters pumped heat in that often overwhelmed the 2.7 5 blade fan, which is why the ex-USA '74 cars are so much more desireable than the later year variants. Californian air pumps just compounded the extra weigh / extra complexity / reduced power killer for any sports car.

It all kicked off in 1975.

Europe avoided the worst of it. We even had the '74 / '75 2.7 Carrera which was a 2.7 Touring by any other name.

Yummy.

And then the '75 whale tail ... :) OMG !
