Front suspension repair/upgrade.

The front offside transverse control arm on my 72 911S has rusted through. It looks fairly easy to weld a patch on but I am concerned that other parts which I can't see may also be weakened.
My first question is:- Were these arms common to all the 911 models of that period? That would make it easier and cheaper to locate a replacement - I hope!
Alternately, is there a recommended upgrade path for the suspension? I am looking at something fairly straightforward, using all the existing mounting points. As always, cost is an issue so nothing too exotic please.
Any and all advice appreciated.

Hi Bob,
If you mean the A-arms then you can swap them with other ones, but yours will have a small u shaped bracket on them for the anti roll bar, which all Ss have. These can be bought separate and then added to any A-arms that does not have them, or find a set, which has them already. If you buy a complete front end set up (which is an option), also remember you have S brakes which have a 3.5 inch bolt spacing, while none S cars have 3 inch spacing.
I have a complete front suspension and steering, brakes (the lot) from a 71T for sale soon, as I am upgrading mine with the complete set up from a 3.2. I am doing this as I then get Bilsteins, larger torsion bars and anti roll bar and also the 3.2 front brakes.

Merry Christmas

Thanks Alan,
I want to keep the current brakes (having just re-built the calipers, bought new disks, hubs, bearings & brake lines etc.) It might have been more cost effective if I had gone your route and replaced the complete assembly but once started I guess I will have to soldier on.
So, looks like I am looking for A-arms & perhaps a replacement cross member. Any idea how many years (or when was the last year) that the arms will still fit original '72 mounting points?
And Seasons greetings to you although here in the West Country it doesn't currently look much like Christmas!
Cheers,
Bob
