Hi, greetings from australia.
I am looking at a 1966 912 and it doesnt have the italic 912 badge on the right hand side ofthe engine cover. it also has the wider spaced separate p o r s c h e lettering at the base of the engine cover.
I was under the impression that this badging was on 1967 and later cars? or is it possible that this was built post sept 66 and they adopted the 67 model badging?
All help guidance and advice is much appreciated!

It's highly likely that the panel has been replaced in the past. The early script was only around for a couple of years. It was/is a lot easier to get the later panel an put the later badges on. My car is the same.

Steve anything is possible, best to determine the build month and decide...though could be that the panel was replaced.
But 912 registry in the states is your friend ...

Thanks Chaps. I have found 2 other 66 912s with the same badging on the engine lid so it is possible it came from the factory like this. I will have to check the VIN stamp on the engine lid to determine if its the original Lid, which I suspect that it is now.

'66 Silver and gold were available
Should be like this. Harder to get than just letters as there weren't many made and older. And as always people try and 'update' their cars. I bet in 1969 it wouldn't have been a big issue to update your car to '69 spec if you scratched the lid or wanted it to look younger.
What scrip is on the glovebox? They should match. Both, script or straight. Then you should be able to work it out or asertain if it's a 'bitsa'.
I might have a silver set if you're interested

Found a picture of my old '66 but I dind't have the guts to drill the holes (or find the old ones) for the 912 bit
But I must admit if I had another '66 I would have the scrippty script

I have a Porsche Homologation picture from July 66 which shows the later block letters and spaced out Porsche letters. Happy to post here, like everything 912 - it happened when it happened not when the so called exert books tell you today.

But isn't that just before the changeover month. Old script in short supply and the new in stock. "Let's go for it Wolfgang old Ferdinand will give us a pat on the back for being so efficient in getting the next model year in production".
Just saying

That is what I mean. I think Porsche were well known for using up old parts or like this fitting what they had nearest to hand.

Before you get the drill out - quick word of warning. I believe there are two versions of the early "Porsche" emblem, with different mounting pin positions. Worth a double-check that the one you have matches those 912bbs measurements.

Thanks and you are correct as after some more research we got the right measurements which have now been drilled correctly....I hope
