Tyres for 912/911

Post by neilbardsley »

I went to use the car today and my front left tyres was flat. I checked and I have 4 different makes of tyres but they all seem to be 165 80 R15. I find these

What these do people use? Can I do for a wide tyres on the same rim?

Hi

I have verdestein tyres on my 912. Have been really pleased with them and amazed how little they have worn and I have used them reasonably hard.

A bit more research about speed rating. One of the tyres is an 86P which according to wiki is good to 93 mph. Which is a little scary because I know the car and go quicker than that!

That is the difference between T Trac and Sprint Classics

Anybody seen this thread about sidewall problems?

Hi, I run 165 15 Toyo 550's on a 6 inch rim, I chose these because they have a vintage, almost crossply appearance but are grippy enough for 90 bhp. Good value tyre in my opinion.

I use Avon ZV3 tires on my 912. Used them previously and impressed. I would recommend them. Got them using black circles.

You asked if you can go wider? Yes. If you are looking for period correct the suggestions above are what your looking for. I have 205/55/15. They are wider but won't look right unless your vehicle stance is lower. I have heard that Porsche delivered cars lower for Europe than here in the states

I was going to go for Michelin XZX 165SR15 for my 912

www.vintagetyres.com currently have 10% off all tyres - no affiliation but have spoke to them and they are very helpful.

Anyone know of any issues with XZX tyres on the standard 15" rims?
I belive they will need an inner tube for that rim - is that correct?

Regards

Can I recommend

http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/

A good price with fitting and balancing included. The come to the car and fit for you. We have used them twice now. I went for some VREDESTEIN T-TRAC tyres. They offer the Sprint Classic too but since I also had 4 new tyres on the Landie too it hasn't been a cheap month a cheaper tyre was my preferred option!!
