Lurker no more ......

Hello Everyone

I'm not exactly new to this forum but thought I should introduce myself properly as I've been drifiting in and out for a few years while dreaming of buying a pre 73 car. After looking at lots of cars, asking even more questions and a couple of near misses, I have finally bought one. All happened a bit quickly and when I least expected it but so far so good.

I bought my first 911 (a wonderful 1987 3.2 Carrera Sport) in 1995 and have had a few since including a 964 RS which I tracked extensively. Currently also have a 996 GT3 and am partial to Caterhams and motorbikes (especially on track). I've always loved the purity of early 911s and have wanted one for as long as I can remember.

Huge thanks to all of those people who have been so very generous with their time, expertise and patience. I'll have lots more questions I am sure and it is invaluable to have such a wonderful resource / community as DDK to help and make ownership more fun (great job Bootsy and team). I look forward to getting out in the car and meeting some of you in 2013.

A Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you all.

Regards

Feroz

Good news Feroz! And sounds like the start of many a long term love affair :love10:

Nice intro, even if it is after 150 posts... and as a true enthusiast, you'll love having an early car. Enjoy.

BTW... as has already been pointed out: TTIWWP!!

The Force is strong on this one.....

Hello again

It may not be a big surprise to some of you ........ but I bought a 2.7 Carrera RS replica :) . It is based on a LHD 911T from Dec 72 that was first delivered in Belgium. The car was imported to the UK in the early 80s and has been in RS replica guise since at least the early 90s. It underwent an extensive rebuild, including a bare metal repaint, about 10 years ago by Neil Bainbridge and was refurbished again in 2011 and finished to something like lightweight spec.

The engine originated from a 75 Carrera and was rebuilt about 6k miles ago to RS spec (and then some), again by Neil Bainbridge, at a cost of £15k  . The gearbox, also rebuilt, is a 915 unit with LSD. Bilstein suspension all around, refurbished 7+8 x 15 Fuchs and SC front brakes. The car goes very hard and sounds fantastic. The interior has been retrimmed by Southbound and is a great place to be - comfortable and business like. There is more to the spec but I am still trying to work the details from the invoices.

It drives beautifully and I am looking forward to putting some more miles on it (especially if this mild weather continues). The car came with a huge folder of invoices and a colourful history which has made for interesting reading in the meantime. There are some nice period RS parts and literature with it which is a bonus. I've wanted a 2.7 Carrera RS for as long as I can remember and realistically, this is as close to one as I'll get for a while!

I'll start a new thread in the Member's Car Gallery with more details and pictures but here are a few to start with.

Regards

Feroz

About bleedin' time too...

Yup a 75 model year engine is what you want...a bit more black and it would be even better....seriously though really glad you found what you've been searching for...looks well set up, look forward to seeing it in the flesh

Best

Hi Feroz
It looks fabulous I am very pleased for you.
It has been a long search.
I guess you won't be falling out of it very easily.
It might be fun watching you get in after the Christmas pud.

Thanks all, it has taken me a bit of time but I am pleased with the result. Hopefully it will live up to expectation.

I have my good wife to thank for this one. I was procrastinating and she put the money in my account and told me to get on with it. I knew there was a good reason I married her

Merry Christmas everyone!
