DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I am well on the way with my Pilgrim California Kit, however I have discovered a problem with the wheel arches ! The wheels sit far too forward in the arches and look absolutely ridiculous.

I have spoken at length with Tony at Pilgrim who has in turn spoken to Willy at L and B It appears that this problem is fairly common.

The suggestion is that the flared wheel arches are cut off, moved forward and re bonded onto the body. ( Tony at Pilgrim has said that he would undertake this or pay me to do it)

Have any of you self builders out there had to do this before. Has anyone got any tips or hints on how to do this ?

Any help or sensible suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a tricky one. The only suggestion I can offer is to get someone who's really proficient with fibreglass to take it on. There's a TVR bodyshop near me (Bristol) who have a great reputation for crash repairs etc. , if there's someone similar near you they might fit the bill.

Good luck sounds unbelievable to me, surely if this is common the mould would of been rectified, rather than you having to take this on?

Apparently I am the first person to buy a flared wheel arch model since Pilgrim bought it from L and B

The problem lies in the wheel base. My wheel base comes out at 2155mm which is the same as pilgrims standard wheel base. but L and B say that it should be 2125mm which would put the wheels in about the right place.

Well Ive done it, I cut off and moved the wheel arches over the Christmas period. I cant seem to get the photos on here but I have posted them on

I am quite pleased with the way that they have turned out.

I should soon be finished prepairing the bodywork for Paint. I hope to get the car painted by the end of Feb and then have it registered/ SVA (???) by May.

If anyone has or is soon to put a vehicle through SVA I would apreciate any advice etc. I will also be glad to pass any info on when I get there

Similar to you I ve used the Xmas hols to get the car moving..everythings been fitted and removed, now just waiting on the paint - the sprayers actually coming over today to discuss the colour choice etc.

Should be painted mid Jan, then just the long road to finishing it for the SVA then REfinishing it for me!

I ll post some pictures later and if I hit the SVA first let you know how it goes..

Just checked out the pics, your a braver man than me! Looks great though well done

the great SVA race is on guys lets keep each other informed of our adventures eh.

i am starting a new job as a commisining engineer (lots of travel) next week so i heve put off any serious work until i have settled into taht.

but it is my new years resolutin to get that car back on the road where it belongs. and as the DVLA have kepth the logbock i need SVA to do this.
