Hello all!
i have just bought a 1979 911SC - it is race prepared and did some production cup racing in 2005/6 with some success (won its class in 2005), it took me 10 hours of driving through the night in the pouring rain with no heater to get her back up to scotland!
i had been looking for something older to do a bit of historic rallying , like an escort/chevette/kadett etc, when i had a brainwave and thought a 911 R/RS would be nice and which wouldnt be much harder to work on than an old Beetle!! (HA!!)
Which brings me to the SC, the mechanicals are very good, and the shell , while having the odd ripple and battle scar is in very good shape. the engine was blueprinted to factory horsepower a couple of years ago and runs very nicely! it also has an LSD and reasonable Bilsteins all round. i will run it till the mot expires in the summer then strip it bare and do the usual stuff required to turn it into an RS or similar - the ones i have seen on here are outstanding!
will post some pics up once i have worked it out!
hope to pick some brains over the coming months/years/etc
cheers
dave

Hi Dave and welcome to DDK. I built an MSA post-historic 3.0 911 a few years ago which is campaigned by a good friend of mine, Peter McDowell. That car was also a backdated 911SC. Drop me aline if you need any help, though it will have to be of the long distance kind as I am in Sussex.

Hey Dave
Welcome to DDK. Whereabouts are you in Scotland? There's only a few of us up here so nice to add to the list. I'm in Ayrshire, one in Dumfries & Galloway, a few around the central belt and one or two North Eastish. We threaten to meet up now and again but very few takers so far on the couple of times we organised something.
Keep us up to date with the car and planned events.
Regards
Mike

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
Nick , I might well take you up on advice, that's just the type of thing I am after! I was worried that backdating with the 3.0ltr engine might be no use for historic stuff, but obviously you have got that sorted!
Mike, I'm in Ayrshire too! So any planned meets, let me know!
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave
You will be the closest DDKer to me then if you are who I think you are! You probably have a Range Rover.
There is another 912 owner from Dundonald and an early 911S owner from Ayr but that's about it for Ayrshire.
Sure will link you in to any planned get togethers. Watch out for pm's but likely to be next year now.
Good luck with your car.
Regards
Mike

Thanks dougie,
I will definitely take you up on that once I get round to backdating!
First job will be sorting the cage out, it is a rather hefty race cage, I have decided to cut my losses and remove parts or all of it and re-routing it, then hopefully I will strip it down and do a full inside and out respray and remodel!!
Cheers
Dave

Hey Dave
I live close to Ayr and with a name like codfather you can only be in one profession right?
Fish merchant (unless you owned that fish and chip shop on Beresford Terrace called codfather which seems to have disappeared) and if your surname is not Peroni.......
Just lucky I know the area,
Regards
Mike

Good detective work! My business is based in Alloway Place (dealing in seafood export) no connection with pieronis, but do sell them scallops!
Cheers
