Installing rear seat belts

Post by scalino65 »

Hello.
As I'd like to take my kids in the car, can anyone tell me whats involved in fitting (securely and safely, etc) some rear seat belts in a 911? My understanding is that the lap strap securing points will already be present and that the shoulder strap will presumably need a plate installed under the rear shelf. To what extent is the rear parcel shelf cut or drilled?
Also, any recommendations of somewhere/someone that will do the job to the satisfaction of a somewhat safety paranoid father....? I'm sure all ddk dads must feel the same!
cheers
Will

I recommend Quickfit SBS to source and/or fit rear belts, especially if you are going for inertia belts

buy the belts , fittings and spreader plates from quickfitsbs . They could fit them for you too

You need to drill the parcel shelf .. either from below or ( using a 90deg attachemnt on your drill) from above. You'll need the attachemnt as the window glass prevents you gettingin with a normal drill

Looking to do the same on my '71 911, does the rear parcel shelf need modding? Would be good to see some pics if anyone has done this

Hi Will

I bought a set of rear inertia belts from Quickfit, had a sheet of 400 x 150 x 3mm steel cut, drilled 6 times and bolted it through the rear parcel shelf

Image

unlike some cars I had seen I elected to place the belts centrally, they never seem to look too good in the corners, being too close to the C posts and headlining
the box I made and covered with foam and vinyl...its the same set up as my E36 BMW

i thought I had uploaded a picture of this plate from within the engine bay as its perfectly visible....seems to elude me for the moment........I can send you a picture if you like, email me an address

Many thanks Jonathan. Looking forward to catching up on Wednesday: we can have a chat about restraining troublesome children then!
