aintree 50 years

hi.went to aintree yesterday,not many porsches there.a few 911s and a new r s superduper thing. but among the mazzers,ferraris,inc g t o +dino
ect ect,i spotted a old f 1 car? to my amazement it was a cisitalia,never seen one before ! very turn out from top hat classic race cars
one sad note sterling moss was in a wheelchir ?????
anybody know why????

Stirling had a back operation during the late summer - he was in a wheelchair at Goodwood in September. As far as I know he is mobile but uses the wheelchair for a bit of respite.
Its amazing what the Porsche family are responsible for as they had a connection with Cisitilia. Sadly, the Grand Prix Cisitalia, designed by the Porsche team in 1949, never made it into serious production as the Italian company that commissioned it went bust. The car was shipped to Argentina and sat for 3 years in a car factory. Some enthusiasts managed to research its history and rebuilt it but it blew two pistons on its first run in the Temporada in 1953. Following a rebuild the car was withdrawn from the race after venting oil onto the exhaust.
After an abortive record attempt (to try and get something from the car) a piston failed again and the car was sold - only to have a V8 put in it and used as a dragster!
Porsche found it in 1960 and restored it. The engine was 1,493 cc, twelve cylinder horizintally opposed, and water cooled
with four camshafts. With a Roots supercharger and Weber carbs it produced 450 BHP at 10,500 revs.
