It's been a while since I went to see Drag racing at Elvington and it looks like they're half way through the season already.

Despite all my years (yes, lots of them!) and my interest in motorsport I've never been to a drag racing event
Elvington is 20 mins from where I live - should I make the effort?

Is worth seeing, but elvington is a dump compared with santapod . Go to watch some good racing and some interesting cars, but don't expect the sights and spectacle of a top track with the top cars.

Damn, i'm away that weekend at Jonathan Palmer Racing School - I'll have to look out for the next one...

Go to Santa Pod in September for the European Finals - top event with full on Top Fuel, Funny Car, pro Mod (my favourite) etc.

DDK did mention catching up there in May, but am aiming to go myself in September as been a few years since I have been.

Well, the last time I went to Elvington it was like one of those 60s/70s race meets, shot on 16mm, you see only on youtube these days. We sat on the grass banking watching the cars run down the strip, there was a jet car there for a shakedown and when the engine fired up it burnt a big hole in the side of a coach.

There was a JCB that pulled wheelies, you could wander round the paddock and the cinder carpark was full of all sorts of intersting motors.

So then... Elvington Raceway, 20 minutes from home..... Santapod, 6673 miles from home...

We`ll see you there.

Close Mike...... But add another 5% to get down country to home #2 (12km from the Mayon volcano, as the crow flies)

It was quite good actually.
There was a mixture of cars there, some proper drag racing cars, things comparable to our cars and then some modern stuff.

I only stayed a couple of hours and had 2 runs down the strip.
One was against a 924 and one against a chav in a Corsa.
I was hoping to race against an Escort Mexico but its luck with the queueing system.

Drag racing is ok, a good laugh for only £35 for unlimited runs, but nothing compared to a track day.
If we went in a group from DDK it would have been more fun.

Forecast for today is not good:

"It will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain or showers, this rain becoming heavy and persistent later in the morning. Sometimes brisk northerly winds."

Looking out of the window all I can see is grey, overcast and 'looks like rain'

On this basis I'm giving the drag racing a miss and will go and visit friends instead
