Just joined, although have been interested ("obsessed according to my wife!") in Porsches for a long time. First Porsche was a 944 Turbo back in 1993 and since then have had 8 911s from different periods, although all were rear-wheel drive and NA. Currently own two 993s (trying to sell one of them) plus recently turned to the dark side and bought a Challenge Stradale too.
Although we're English we have been living in Switzerland for coming up to 13 years. Based near Zurich.
I do tend to change my cars fairly regularly (one could say too regularly) and now thinking about what next. Last week I had an opportunity to drive a real 2.7RS. What a car! Now thinking of purchasing an early 911, although not sure what to go for. Options would seem to be:
- 2.7 RS Touring (but extremely difficult to find a good one, for sale, in Switzerland)
- 2.2S / 2.4S
- 2.7 RS Tribute
- other, modified, early 911
What I loved about the 2.7RS is that it is fast enough and has a reasonable amount of torque, without being too quick (speed limits are low in Switzerland but the fines are very high!) The CS is definitely way off the scale of "too quick" and probably needs to go before my licence does (but it looks fabulous, drives brilliantly and the noise it makes in tunnels is to die for).
I do drive "sportingly" but exclusively on the road as don't really have time to fit in trackdays, nevermind racing proper (my wife and daughter guard my free-time jealously!). Mostly it is early morning drives in the Swiss countryside and getting out and about with my daughter. The CS doesn't go down well with my wife as we can't all fit in, so 4 seats would be better.
I've joined the forum with the hope of making some like-minded acquaintances, picking up some knowledge on early 911s and perhaps getting some assistance/advice when looking to buy (or perhaps more pertinently, help in identifying cars I shouldn't buy).
