If you go with Hagerty they will accept your own valuation with a set of photos. I have my A coupe covered by them for £50K

I've had a policy with Footman James for years and it has all my other rubbish on it too so would rather not move as don't want the grief of getting the other stuff valued- many thanks for the info on Hagerty - interesting thereseems to be no standard valuation limit across the insurers.
With F-J once over 15k value they want an independant valuation from a car club official, restorer , valuer or specialist dealer.......

I don't know much about pre As, but if you promise to buy me a drink one day I'll write whatever you like on headed paper.
Im very easily bought.
Not as easily as Bootsy though.

Hi - does anyone know someone who could do an official valuation, ideally in or near Suffolk, so I can get agreed value on my insurance? It's for a Chesil Speedster.
Cheers, David

Get well soon Bootsy.
Tried to increase the valuation on mt T6B I know its the lowliest model but Flux wouldn't increase it above 30K, Saying that's what they go for?
Mine is not a rust bucket and I would say it's a very good condition 2. Where can I get one for 30K? 'cos I fancy another at that price.
Just got a renewal, Might look around this year

Louis,
That 30K agreed value is ridiculous if your car is in decent running condition and looks generally okay from the body and underneath point of view. No doubt it passed an MOT okay too.
It seems to me and all the books and magazines as well as internet I read, a 356 in poor condition will command that price, probably not running and really rusty.
I have been with my current insurer for a number of years now and they have increased the value for my car over this time whenever asked. Sure in the first place they had to have 6 photos to agree that they would accept my value. That together with written value assessment copied from books currently available. Look in Smiths there is currently a book advising current classic car prices. ( buying guide ) It defines the 356 and all the models and you will be surprised Louis. ( Around £10- from memory but useful !!)
I thought I needed a written appraisal from a club or specialist but I think current auction sold prices
dictate the average price level . Look up Hagerty on google you can see there too a good idea on price.
My broker is
www.premierinsurance.co.uk and the car is insured by them with KGM Motor Policies at Lloyd's. I have touch wood never claimed anything but they have always been helpful and I hope that would be the case if I did. My cover though is for a milage that is low per annum ( 1,000 miles)
no doubt that could be increased.
They seem a very professional company although I reckon Hagerty also would be fine.

Usually insurance companies will insure for any amount with photos or a club or specialist dealer valuation, all valueless really. Surely they're insuring an amount of money rather than a car and just adjust the premium to suit.
Valuations are hard ATM because sales are down and there's plenty of cars available. Houses the opposite.

Pretty much my experience - more value, higher premium - your choice.
Hagerty have insured my non original, non matching driver C on £50k value, on the basis of a few photos only, supplied by myself, if that helps.
(And, Get well soon Thomas..

I'd say you are seriously underinsured. I would get a valuation on your car and go from there. I make no secreat that I am no fan of AF. But show me another 356 for £30k of your spec.. I would move to Hagerty. They would also help you with your valuation. I have been impressed with them as a company. Very well respected.

Looks like you are now sorted with a valuation provided by Bootsy ( get well soon mate )
My comments . My insurer is Classicline , I started with them because they covered trackdays and I used to drive hot 911s.
They now cover 2 356s and 1 Ferrari for me , and they accept self valuation up to £100k value , must be renewed after 3 years . None of my cars goes over 100k , however I get the 356C ( RHD and faultless) valued by Fred Hampton . Porsche Club GB 356 ( and 2.7RS ) Register Secretary as the value has crept up to £90k.
Porsche Club GB offer free valuation ( and CoA ) service to members , maybe not enough of a benefit to justify joining but small change in the hobby of owning and running classic cars like 356s.
An Outlaw Pre A is difficult to value , an unmolested original would be easier (!) but would definitely need an accepted authority . Originals are 150 - 250k . My rule of thumb for an outlaw in good shape bodywise and mechanically would be one-third of value of equivalent condition original , so 50-83k !
I have an outlaw shown above valued at 71k for insurance purposes but doubt I could replace it for that , not concours but very covetable , took 4 years to find , when I started looking outlaw 356As were 40k -ish , and 'The Baron' outlaw 356A for sale on DDK back then was 80k - ish after an expensive Roger Bray / Andy Prill restoration .
