Porsche 911 2.4 S - £79,995
The 911 2.4 S was the top of Porsche's range before the introduction of the iconic 2.7 RS in late 1972.
The 2.4 litre engine runs much of the same engineering as the 2.7 car and the factory quoted just 20bhp less for its 300cc defecit - 190bhp for the S, 210bhp for the RS.
Today a good RS Touring is around £200,000 and a Lightweight more, whereas a lovely S such as this one can be bought for far less. The S may lack the aggressive competition styling and details of the RS, but is still a very quick and immensely rewarding car to drive. Some might even argue that its more subtle appearance gives it more appeal for normal road use than the more outrageous RS.
This lovely matching number example was delivered new to Texas in May 1973. The odometer shows just 44,000 miles which, from the stack of service history with the car and its general condition, appears to be genuine.
Porsche's records show that it was ordered from new with the sought after Recaro Sports Seats, the still present Blaupunkt stereo and the unusual front driving lights. It appears to have been originally been delivered on 16" Fuchs, though is presently on the more period looking 15s. It can be supplied on either size at no cost or with both sets of wheels at extra cost.
The car is incredibly original. It has seen paint in its lifetime, but by the looks of it never a welder. It does not appear to have had any accident damage and the interior is all original. It really is remarkably well preserved.
It was imported from Texas to the UK in late 2010 since when it has undergone a mechanical restoration. Most notable of which is a full rebuild of the original engine by renowned marque specialist Neil Bainbridge at a cost of £19,500. A rolling road print out following this rebuild shows a fantastic 202bhp at 6600rpm, just 8bhp short of what Porsche quoted for the RS, making this a really very rapid machine to pilot. It has covered fewer than 2000 miles since the work was completed.
The car is sold with an excellent service history including the original maroon document wallet, service book and key card, a near immaculate tool roll and a folder full of receipts.
If you're fault finding with this car you really are clutching at straws : The bonnet badge is from a later car, there is a decal missing from the engine lid latch panel and a couple of the window rubbers are starting to perish but it really is only that minor. It's a matching number, correct colour, largely original, mechanically superb 2.4 S and you don't stumble across them every day.
