Wide body Hot Rod by RS Teknik

This car is based on a 1985 model year 911 3.2 Carrera, so enjoys the improved suspension brakes of the later car as well as the 231bhp motor and galvanised chassis.

It is finished in a style inspired by the competition 911 STs and RSRs of the early 1970s including its aggressively flared wheel arches, through-the-bonnet fuel filler and deep dished wheels, but retains the effortless performance, reliability and useability of the 1980s cars.

The conversion includes replacement of the heavy metal bonnet, engine lid, front wings and bumpers with lightweight GRP items. The original steel sunroof was also removed and a full carbon fibre roof panel fitted saving important extra weight from the highest part of the car. Inside is a light weight carpet set, dished Momo wheel and period style seats. Overall the weight saving is dramatic and gives the car considerably better performance and agility than the Impact Bumper can on which it is based.

Wheels are the stunning (and expensive!) 15x9" front and 15x12" rear Fuchs replicas from Braid Wheels with Michelin TB15 tyres.

The window frames are replaced with early 70s style bright anodised items and door handles and headlight bezels are chrome. A single round mirror and through-the-bonnet fuel filler complete the period look.

Mechanically the robust and powerful 3.2 engine was in good health when it arrived, so needed very little. We have fully rebuilt the gearbox and overhauled the brakes including new discs and pads as necessary and the car now drives perfectly. If you have ever heard that a 915 box can't shift precisely and accurately, come and try this one, it's lovely to use.

The tyres provide massive grip wet and dry and the reduce weight makes the car exceptionally agile and quick. A stainless exhaust and drilled air box gives a rortier engine note without it becoming intrusive.

This car is a fine compromise between period delicacy and aggression and more modern useability. We've actually owned it for a while and because of its character and performance have been a little loathe to let it go! We've used the car, amongst other things, for a classic Porsche tour through Belgium, Germany and France, where it performed faultlessly.

It was also recently prominently displayed in period rally livery at the International Essen Motorshow (see photograph) and is set to appear in next month's 911 & Porsche World magazine. All of which adds nicely to the provenance and history of this great little hot rod.

It has now covered a little under 8,000 miles since the original build.

The car is currently registered as 22WXJ. This valuable, ageless marque is available with the car by negotiation.
