V55/5 - Help please!

Not sure whether I should have posted this here or in the 911 section, but as I'm now ready to register my US import having gained an MOT certificate today I finally decided to open the registration pack one of my colleagues gave to me a while ago [gulp].

I'm going to stage a 'sit in' at my local VLO later this week to sort registration out, but in the meantime thought I'd complete the form (as best I can).

Which sections do I actually need to complete to comply with their registration requirements? Does the response 'Exempt' in box 10 preclude many of the following boxes to which I have no idea of the correct answer?

Whilst I can read instructions pretty well, the 'How to complete' guide as supplied is of little more use than the proverbial chocolate tea cup.

Any assistance will be warmly welcomed.

Ian, I wouldn't worry about filling in the form before you go - they will fill it in for you.

Depending on which DVLA office you're dealing with & which clerk handles your application it may or may not go smoothly - & if you're lucky you may only have to make the one visit.

Some advice:

1) You will definitely need your MOT, insurance certificate, US registration/title & Customs form (C384?)

2) You may be required to produce a "Letter of Conformity" from Porsche Cars confirming the date of manufacture/VIN (£55 + VAT!!!)

3) You may be required to have the car inspected

Good luck !!

I registered my car in June and didn't need a letter of conformity and they didn't ask to inspect the car. Rather than the C384 document you need the C&E receipt for duty and tax paid, which would have been sent to you from your UK shipping agent. By the way it is not an over the counter service so they send out you document later and in my case I didn't get the tax receipt or US title documents back.

Good luck.

It's a bit of a hike but my local DVLA office in Peterborough are very classic-friendly... chap there likes Land Rovers and will talk endlessly about 'eighty inchers' and the like distracting himself nicely in the process!

You never know...

Queued for an hour and a half yesterday! at my local VLO and now waiting for judgement day.

I perhaps cheekily gave them a call today to check progress and was told their enquiry was currently with Interpol to make sure the vehicle had not been stolen from the States! As I handed them the original California State Certificate of Title when I went to register it, I hope there's nothing funny going on...

The VLO are on strike tomorrow (Friday), so it will be Monday before my registration is ready to pick up. Not much chance of getting a few miles under my belt in it this weekend then!

Ah well, at least that gives me time to sort out why it won't pull too well and cuts out intermittently.
