Wednesday Night Stupid Question

I've just taken my car for spin, and whilst everything was fine, when i went to check the fornt tyre pressures I noticed that if I grabbed the wheel and pulled it back and forth that it rocked. This to me suggests the wheel bearings are either worn (unlikley as they were new in March) or the lock nut holding the thrust bearing has lossened and needs tightening, or finally, this is normal for 911's!
How much play should there be in the front bearings if any?

There should be minimal play. If you fitted new bearings the outers may have settled in the hubs. Check it quickly

They should be tight enough to take up any play but loose enough so the wheel spins freely. It takes a bit of judgement so I normally spend a few minutes spinning the disc by hand and experimenting with how tight the nut is until I find a compromise I'm happy with. Make sure the pads are not in contact with the disc first.

Luke,
Different beast, but the wheel bearings settled considerably on my car and each corner needed tightening up again to give correct torque / play.
(At the rear they'd settled enough to leave virtually none of the original 300 lb/ft on the nut which was split pinned so couldn't have moved)
I'd get them tightened up before any damage occurs.
