hi everyone, looking at purchasing a 1971 911 sportmatic never had one could anyone tell me what they are like any problems difficullt to resale.etc and if it is good value.

Hi Steve, I've had a wonderful Sporto 2.2 911T which was a real hoot to drive. I have no problems whatsoever with them, and would have another any day. One you've got used to them, they are a doddle, and fantastic in traffic.

I would temper that slightly by saying mine was an absolutely mint car that had proper money spent on it by the previous owner to keep it in tip top shape, the Sporto box never gave an ounce of trouble.
I liked it so much , I bought it back from the guy I sold it to, six years later.

There was a time when they were frowned on by some people, (mostly those who hadn't driven one), but, whilst there is still a slight stigma, it isn't what it used to be, mainly due to the fact that good early cars, (whatever transmission), are getting harder to find.

I should point out that I have also had a manual 2.4 911E, (converted from a Sporto by a previous owner), and currently have an RST Rep, which is a manual, so I've seen both sides of the coin.

With regard to the car you're considering, it's been around a long time now, and I would definitely go and have a good look at it, but take someone who knows about Sporto's to make sure you're getting a good 'un.
If the car's structure, engine and box are good, then it's not over-priced.
