Hello good people,
i am deliberating whether to return my swb to it's original colour of champagne gelb/yellow (i have been told that is the right colour for the code) or to go for a colour that i prefer dark blue or blood orange. If i go for my choice will it have a dramatic affect on the price? I have had a quote and apparently a fixed price of £6000 for a bare metal respray and any repair/prep needed. Sounds too good? or am i getting ripped off.
Any help, comments, opinions would be hugely appreciated.

Unless you're into originality or want to turn the car around and sell it as 100% original in the future then go down that route. Otherwise paint it whatever colour you like, so long it looks period, is a Porsche colour and provided it's executed to a high standard I don't see any problems.

£6k sounds like it should be a very high standard job, but it all depends what the steel is like underneath the existing paint and what repairs/restoration is required. But assuming the shell is free from damage and rust for £6k you could expect an excellent paint finish.

I have been told a good bare metal respray will cost 5K to 10K depending on starting condition and standard of finish so it's in the right ball park.

As for colour you will get a higher price for it and sell it easier if it is the original colour. That I think is fact. Doesn't mean you should though.

If it was a very rare and expensive model I'd say yes.

Otherwise do what YOU want!

I'm always wary of a bodyshop that will give a fixed price for a respray and repair work. How can they know what repairs are needed until the paint has been removed?

To me £6K would cover the cost of a good bare metal respray but not the cost of any potential metal work that may be needed first.

Ask more questions before handing your car over.

If you prepared to pay the going rate (I'm guessing so)

I would use someone with significant experience of early 911s.

Appreciate everyone's thoughts, think i'll definitely go down the new paint route, as i'm not that keen on the champagne, maybe a steve mcqueen grey, blue or orange (so many choices) . If anyone can recommend a decent respray place at good value prices in Surrey, sussex and Berkshire area would really appreciate it.

assuming the insurance folks pay up I will be testing out a new place in Camberley soon, which I am sure will be good as they are working on Mike's RSR project, and he's just as particular as me

when mine was restored I used a great bodyshop called DC Coachworks, down in St Leonards on Sea, not so close but have a look at my restoration thread as after 4 years the paint job is still beautiful

Champagne is one of the rarer colours and would command a small premium over a car in a more common colour when (if) the time comes to sell. IMHO.
