"if it doesn't make reserve I'll jack it up, make a couple of cuts and watch it fold in two. At that point I'll eBay the v5 and vin plate"

It's a '69 model - probably the only '69 RHD S Targa in the UK ...

Fingers crossed it get bought for sub £10k by someone with another £20k in the budget. Would be a shame if it was butchered

DO NOT BID SERIOUSLY FOR THIS CAR THIS CAR! Bid for spares, by all means, but the read what I have written about this 911 below carefully!

I had a look at this about 4 months ago (September/October time). As it was advertised through the classified of one of the Porsche mags, and near me (i'm in cornwall)

It has no chassis number! The main chassis number near the fuel tank has been ground off! Probably for tax exempt reasons, of maybe it was stolen previously

If you look closely you can see a lot of things don't stack up.

Its got a 69S bumper, plus other bits, the engine is a 71T (ask for the number, i checked against a red book at the time), I cant remember what the gearbox is, but the back end is impact bumper, and they did not make a pre73 RHD Targa!! Just ask Autofarm.

I was initially salivating at my barn find 'S', especially with a number plate worth £6000 - £8000 (GAZ 911), but when things didn't stack up, it just wasn't worth it. They guy hasn't mentioned the number plate either - the car had GAZ 911 with it, bought& transferred but never physically fitted (I checked all the documents on this when I was there) All v5 documents matched the dodgy s vin plate. I wonder what happened to that!?

I thought about getting it MOT'd to get the number plate off it, but DVLA will ask for an inspection of this car before they release the number plate (i'm in the trade, and especially as it hadn't been o the road for 11 years) - it wont pass without a stamped chassis number! Talks about a lot of time and money down the drain.

Good for parts though i'm sure its worth 3 - 4k in parts, and I quite fancy those fuch wheels! For £1500 (I am a little tight) I would have bought it, and broken it for bits - but the owner (nice guy, but shocked at the news) wouldn't sell it for anything less than 4k because of the number plate.

Pic of stamped chassis plate, its difficult to see, but the number was clearly ground off, as scratch marks, also now very rusty, where as the rest of the metal in that area was sound, hmmmm

That was why I put a 'smilie' at the end of my earlier post - there were no RHD Targas made by the Factory prior to '73 ...

And the chassis number on the plate doesn't match either of the 2 LHD Targas imported into the UK in 1969. Difficult to know what the shell is. Ground off chassis number to hide something, what looks like a T engine, S rev counter though. Lots of mixed messages. As has been stated chassis can't have been 119310337 unless it was a LHD to RHD conversion.

I have heard there was a bloke up the A5 near here taking stolen LHD cars from the continent many years ago and converting to RHD as part of the process so that sort of dodgy thing did used to happen.

I can see that the boot floor/bulkhead is a correct RHD one, this was a very common conversion even until less than 10 years ago.

This Porsche has come to me and had every intention of doing it but alas crashed my taxi so it has to go

I understand that is NOT a clear cut S or even targa and all i said in my listing was exactly what i know and im no porsche expert

Please i will not be cutting it up and flogging log book on ebay !!!!!!

Car is for sale and dispite the rust on the body would not take a great deal to make good(not perfect) the structure

I have tons of reciepts with this reg on and have even spoke to the owner who had it before

All i hope is that it finds a good home and who buys it puts it back on road

PLEB is just another word for idiot( like the man who emailed me yesterday to ask if it would drive to hereford)

Colin, welcome to DDK.
I wish you well with the sale, your eBay descriptive certainly isn't dishonest but does avoid some obvious questions.
However, it may well be a cheap entry into an early 911 for someone.
Sadly many of us here are wise to some of the shortcomings on that car and even though it's an 'S' the RHD conversion and the fact that it's not a coupe (nor matching numbers) means that restoration costs will likely exceed the final value.
Still, that's the case with most early 911's requiring a full rebuild so your car will probably still sell.
Good luck with the auction, hopefully the car will re-appear on DDK as a runner and provide years of fun for an enthusiast on a budget.

My post above was as a caution to anyone thinking of spending serious money on it (like 10k to buy and 20k to restore). For reasons ive allready highlighted, perhaps this one is best left to parts of which its still worth 2 - 4k.

I am certainly no expert, but this is the place where you will find experts on early 911's. In fact this is where you will get a better idea of what year that 911 really is. Also I could be wrong about that ground off/missing shell chassis number - maybe i looked in the wrong place? Maybe i'm an idiot, for not buying when I had the opportunity. Lets hear from the experts.

Apologies to discuss your car in public. As a lover of cars yourself, then you would appreciate any other information you might get before spending some serious money on your next restoration project.

There is nothing worse than having the wool pulled over your eyes. No one has got money to burn especially right now. Ive been warned, and also told to "buy buy buy" over various cars over the years, through specialist forums and these types of discussions, and for that good fortune, have so far collected a few decent motors.

The 911 is still worth good money, so don't lose too much sleep on it, just probably not as much as you initially thought.

Well treated the old girl to a service and god dammit it ran !!!!

Could of done with advise on oil as forgot that after 10 years all oil had gone into engine i thought no oil and when it fired the scavenger pump let me have all the oil back !!! LOL

Anyway thinking of keeping as becoming attached to the old rust bucket

well sold the p;d girl on ebay for 5400 but buyer did not understand the work involved so going to relist for him as a very nice chap

Will let aution run this time to completion
