Anybody bought the mag Complete Kit Car November issue, there's an article on a company called Inrekor who have choosen to work with Peter Bailey at Chesil to come up with a new chassis, see the link.

Looks very similar to the Vw beetle concept but brought forward into the 21st century. l like it especially with the new front twin independant suspension with a rack and pinion steering. Wonder what the price differance would be compared to the steel kit?? Will be on show at the NEC show in November. Wonder how it will go down with the public???

You can put any age related plate on a new car, can't you? For example, you could put a three letters & three numbers combination.

I thought the problem was putting a new plate on an old car.

Hi Folks,

As I understand it, even if you have an "old" chassis and build a kit onto it you have to have it IVA tested. They then give you a new reg for the year it is IVA tested, so if you built a Speedster on a 1970 chassis it would be reregistered as a 2010 car (Rich, put me right if I'm wrong?) That's the reason behind Chesil going down this route, so I was told by the man in charge there.
But once your car is registered with DVLA you can change the number plate to anything older like a classic plate, but you can't make a car look younger.
Does that make sense??? and yes it does look the dog's I'll be interested to know the cost from Mr Bailey??

umm, i didn't think (and i confess i really don't know why i think this) you could use a black and white plate on anything registered after 1973.

my Apal got away with it as it was built on a 1965 beetle chasis so was therefore registered as such on it's V5.


i think chisels will be a much better drive if they have a modern chasis & i presume by now that finding good beetles to build on must be becoming harder.

Yeah that's right (well I think 72 L reg) thats when they bought in the new style plates (not that I can remember )

My donor was 65, when l Iva'd it this year. In order to retain the age related plate l had to prove l used at least 3 major parts from donor. So my log book states registered 2010. No need to Mot it now for 3 years as it's treated as a new car but do loose my historic road licence exemption. Road tax is £125 a year . You do loose the the 65 plate but re issue you with another 65 age related plate. So bottom line is car registered 2010 but still retains an 65 plate.

Does that make sense??

So l guess as the new chassis doesn't utilize any 3 major donor parts it will not get a age related and maybe get a new reg (2010). Will ask peter on this at the show...

Hey ian if you don't get the kitchen painted theirs always the yellow pages, have fun. Still waiting for the hood. Fitting the Red9 front end and rear in a couple of weeks, will let you now the outcome if money well spent...

What's the show, and when?

What's the chassis material?

Looks an amazing concept: there are some very clever people out there .

You do need to get out more, what cave you crawled out of. Its the NEC classic car show 12th-14th November.

The material is a composite which is layers of aluminuim and foam, yes foam.

Painted the house from top to bottom the other year, walls, ceilings and skirtings. Still having nightmares if l see another roller or brush I'm going to swear.

I wish it was me, thought it was you as you paid someone to rebuild your 911 engine ££££'s

I thought it looked like a sandwich of some sort: brilliant!

As for the show, of course: I've not done that one for years. Shame it's not the following weekend, as I'd be in Coventry the following week.

No I sold a kidney to pay for that

When talking about the DVLA and "age" retention, be very aware that they are NOT consistent.

Their response to the same vehicle is highly likely to vary by both the regional office and/or the staff member dealing with the case.

So be very careful and do your homework/preparation prior to contacting them.
