1971 based 2.7 RS Touring homage

We've sold this lovely 1971 based RS replica before but even the most eagle-eyed may not be able to recollect, since it was previously a lightweight rep with blue wheels and decals.

The gentleman who bought the car from us previously preferred the more restrained styling and more practical accommodation of the touring and commissioned the car to be converted as such, including correctly anodised 7" and 8" Fuch wheels, deco chrome and rubber trims and black decals.

The car is based around a 1971 UK RHD non-sunroof shell, so is pleasingly road-tax free and the age of the car bears it a lovely patina; of the type that cannot be aped by more modern replicas.

Most importantly, it features correct RS running gear. The engine has been built out to 2.7 running on mechanical fuel injection and the gear box is a magnesium cased 915. It's an absolute screamer of a road car, revving freely and cleanly and piling on speed at a rate that is remarkable for a car of its age yet is perfectly tractable and useable in town or at a motorway cruise. It steers precisely and crisply and its modern profile tyres allow it to corner quickly and predictably.

We've been fortunate enough to handle original RS tourings in the past and this car drives at least as well as the real thing.

Inside the car has been allowed a degree of modern comfort with black leather Recaro front seats and rears trimmed to match. Carpeting is salt and pepper from Southbound and a modern sports steering wheel is fitted. A period 380mm touring style wheel can be supplied by negotiation. It's not usual to talk about sound systems on this type of car, but this one is worthy of mention, featuring a lovely period unit mounted in the dash, the controls of which operate a concealed modern Sony system, complete with iPod connectivity - a brilliant solution.

This car presents a really tempting compromise between genuine period performance, real patina and strong usability. It is a lovely classic Porsche.
