Think my engine has died .

Well after a long road to completion i finally got this

On my way up the M6 going to vw northwest classic car show all was ok then a sudden drop in oil pressure and very loud knocking coming from the bottom end of the engine, i pulled over as soon as the oil pressure light came on, no oils came out of the engine.
Got the AA to flat bed me home, going to pull the engine out this weekend anyone have any idea what it could be will it be repairable?
The top end was rebuilt but the bottom end is Original beetle block with 60k although i had it line board duuring the build.
Any info greatly appreciated.

who built the motor ? If you had the case machined, hen surely the bottom end must have been rebuilt with new bearings etc ??? ( align-bored )

What type of engine was it? Standard or breathed on?

I'm confused by this. You say the bottom end's original with 60K, but you had it line bored... So, was the bottom end split or are you just going on hearsay about the line bore?
The description you've given is classic big-end failure – the first bearings to go on a VW engine as they are the last to get any oil. My suspicions are as follows:
If the block was line-bored, did you fit the correspondingly oversize bearings? If not, you'll get catastrophic loss in oil pressure.
Is the crank reground – if so, did you measure the journals to ensure they have been ground to the correct size? DO NOT take it for granted that all bearing journals have been ground to the same size! Measure to make sure…
The failure MUST be either big-end or (less likely) main bearings, and failure on a rebuilt engine will be point towards wrongly-sized journals and/or incorrect bearing clearances. Main bearing failure on a VW engine usually leads to complete seizure – big-end failure leads to knocking as you describe, followed by seizure if you keep it running. The rodbearing wil probably weld itself to the crank once the engine has stopped.
Assuming the case has been line-bored correctly, you may get away with a regrind of the crank, but will almost certainly need a new set of (matched) rods. Good luck.

Sorry to here that mate. Will defo need to be pulled and strip it, split the case to find out what's gone wrong. Fingers crossed not to much damage is done.

Hi , thanks for all the replies everyone obviously i'm very frustrated by this .
Anyway first off appologise for my miss pronunciation in my original post (align-bored) i was rushing
i don't really have huge knowledge of the internal workings of a VW engine i'll get more info when i take it out and return it.
Anyway the engine was rebuilt by someone else so everything i have said is technically their word !! the company that did it i called and they said to take the engine out and and drop it off to them , they told me its no problem a thaey will sort it which is a big relief i will keep this thread up to date.
Dont think i've posted any pictures of the car 99% complete still a couple i small things to finish . Enjoy
