Newbie in SE London

Hello all, I'm Chris, a Septic now embarking on my 4th year in the UK and enjoying a much better driving world.
I'm nearing 40 and its high time I finally realised my driving destiny, since collecting 911 spreads from my father's car mags in the 70s/80s. I've no real need for cars living in SE London, so a 911 will become our primary car.
The search has been ongoing for a few months for a 70's 911 (preferably between 2.4-3.0 l). I'm looking forward to meets and drives and porsche anoraks.

Of course we love you Chris, it's just we're slow to say it.

Hello Chris,
Sorry for the delayed welcome, I think at weekends everyone is doing events or cutting knuckles and getting oily.

Cheers all. No worries, just didn't want to get lost in the noise. I was looking at a 2.7 Carrera up in Buxton on the day of the last meetup in fairmile. How do I find out about the next meetup?

Hi Fatty welcome to DDK.
sorry for the delay replying i've been busy buying cars and showing them of at Silverstone classic
sounds like it might be worth your while also registering with
www.impactbumpers.com (it's sort of, our sister forum) for the slightly later 70's 911. good luck with the hunt and if theres anything we can help you with then please don't hesitate to ask.

Helen-
Thanks. I've already been on IB and was referred here. Lovely overlapping communities, these Porsche nuts.
I'm regularly patrolling through the interwebs looking for carrera3.0s, but presumably so is everyone else. I guess if you hear of someone needing a good home for theirs (or a 2.7 MFI), I'd certainly appreciate it if you can put them in touch.
Cheers all,
Chris

left4: I'm packed into the Herne Hill area/West Dulwich area. I feel your pain. Although not 40 miles, I've got storage in Clapham.
How do you manage that?
jb: cheers. will it be the same location?

welcome to DDK
I wouldn't limit yourself just to 2.4-30 cars, as the smaller engines are great too

As is the usual advice, buy 1st based on condition

Any tidy car will give you huge amounts of fun .... any dog will put you of old cars for life

I see the car once a fortnight and spend way too many hours (for the girlfriend's liking) in the garage, with a beer or two, walking around it looking at it and smelling it...
That's after I've spanked it to within an inch of its life, obviously

Hi Chris and welcome
I was looking at a 2.7 Carrera up in Buxton
The brown one that sold for £30K? What did you think of it?
patrolling through the interwebs
Must be a Top Gear fan? That's one of Clarkson's sayings isn't it?
As Andy says, we need to know your budget to help out

Chris, You're 5 mins cycle ride from mine - I'm in Clapham.
Happy to hook up one eve/weekend: you can have a good look at my car so you know what a 2.4 looks like after an engine & gearbox rebuild, followed by a 5 star holiday at Canford Classics
PM me if interested.
