DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi all,

Are there any software poeple in the ddk who could write a ddk app for the iPhone etc? I just thought It'd be cool/useful/fun?
As well as being a great way to stuff it to the pcgb

It's not a straight forward process. IPhone apps have to be built following certain protocol as they can only be distributed via the app store

The company I work for can do them, they start at £15k!

Doing a little digging, it would appear that because DDK runs on phpBB - if the forum signs up with Tapatalk (http://www.tapatalk.com/) then we can all buy the app from the appstore for £1.79 and off we go. The club isn't charged - only those who buy the client and there is a free 'read only' version too.

Any good?

not sure it works for this version of phpBB though?

It would appear that for Tapatalk to work, DDK needs to be running on phpBB3.0 and unless I'm missing something, we're on phpBB 2.0 - if there were a cost to have the forum migrated / updated, I'd be happy to pay an extra years subs towards the costs - I presume there are a few other iPhone users who feel the same?

I've been looking at having the forum upgraded bit it's a fair bit of work.

However a good iPhone app makes it even more attractive

As tom's suggested a proper App isn't to be sneezed at - although I am a registered developer I can't create an app yet. (if someone developed one I culd submit it to the app store - but then again if someone could develop one they could easily submit it themselves).

I'd question what you want to get out of a ddk App - if it's just access to the forum then it would be better to just make the forum more iphone-friendly - which can be done via style-sheets - I think the pelican board works this way - looks good on an iphone. I've done pages like this at work using iwebkit

Done like this it's not an app - could be called a web-app but totally different to an app - fine for a good user experience though. Don't know if that's what the bulletin board thing is about

Edit - just read the tapatalk thing - looks good - that IS a proper App and would seem to be a relatively quick and painless way of making it easier to use on the iphone - it's still basically a formatting tool though to make the forum easier to read on the iphone.

It seems I've started something!!! As phill suggests, I'd certainly not have any issues with paying a little more for the ddk as it is anyway. It's ( for me) one of the best resources online for all things Porsche related, quite apart from all the other pro's I get out of knowing you folk. While an app is by no means necessary, the forum runs well without it after all, it would add a level of sophistication that would make it suck up that ad revenue?

Really? Any pointers? Is it just slow or basically rubbish? It was the only phpBB compatible one I could find

I looked at it for a few of the other forums I view and checked some reviews which were utter pants. Tbh not downloaded or tried it myself so would be good to get opinion of someone who actually had.
