Just joined, but have lurked here for a while. I'm busy on many other sites: 914World, RoadGlue, Pelican, Early911Sregistry, 912 BBS, 912 Registry UK

I've been addicted since getting my first Porsche, a 914, back in 1975. I've had many 914's since, plus a bunch of 356's. I love the simplicity and handling of the early cars. I've been rebuilding brake calipers since the late 70's and have begun rebuilding transmissions recently. I used to sell good gearboxes, and take the cores back, so I acquired about 10 units that were not in good nick. Like first gear snapped off!

I've been doing a lot of research on paint codes, engine & transmission type #'s & serial ranges, and general history. The 901 engine variants I've researched heavily, and that third # on the case in particular (build#).

Welcome David to DDK

I have followed some of your early research on the early S registry. Are you planning to publish any of your accumulated data? or are you still gathering info?

Regards
Mike

Mike, I'll always be gathering data since there are far too many holes in what I have. Still, I'd like to be able to put up some of the results. I have very extensive lists of paint codes, VIN's, engine & transmission data. Some of the bigger holes are puzzling still: transmission serial # ranges, when was the 1965 to 1966 transition for 911 & 912. I mean really, 40+ years on and we don't know the transition VIN's etc; we know the calendar year, but not the model year transition.
