Hello All

the chief engineer in work has a Sauter formula junior car that has porsche gearbox and brakes,

I am trying to work out what gearbox it has but have done a few searchs on the net and cant fine the code listed,

can anyone help?

the number's on it are

741.301.301.03 , I amsume these are the casting numbers on the case.

86 741/0 and 39605 these are stamped on to the case

The reason I ask is that we have tested and devolped some new gears for his race car,
New quick-shift dog-ring selector hub sets (Porsche type synchros).That are Direct replacement for synchro hubs.

And am wondering if they will fit in other porsche 4 speed gearbox's

the gearshift is now very very quick compared to the old gears the gains on laps time's can be seen, between the lap times from last year.

I'm no expert, but this might help until someone else chimes in

Yep a great resource that ...So your gbox is a 741 manufactured in August 1960 and should have the 6 bolt diff carrier , dual g box mount which is better than the single one and BBBC gears (Driving set with a long 4th ...well long compared to the Speedster). All that assumes someone hasnt changed them

Skirmants make alternative gears for these and many of the race 356s have effectively a 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gear. This works fine if the car is really light and you dont start on an incline
I knew a guy in Canada that raced one and shared that there was one course where they all reversed up to their hill start so as not to pop the clutch

to my knowledge the later 901 4 speeds are a different box of tricks so not sure you could reuse gears there
