DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I have now just completed the second batch of 10, 356/912 alternator conversion kits. I did say I was only going to do 10 but they all sold within a few months so I decided to do another batch. This batch is exactly the same as the ones I produced before with the custom made sand cast aluminum stand, but this time I have improved the design of the fan backing plate. A porsche or vw fan backing plate can not be used because of the extra length of the alternator compared with the original dynamo. The first backing plates I made were fabricated from 3 separate pieces of steel and welded together. This worked fine and looked neat but I was never happy with the appearance. I wanted a more mass produced factory look but was concerned about the cost of making a pressing tool for such a small production run . This time I decided to go for it. Although I have never made a tool like this before I decided to give it a go as I also fancied the challenge. I have now advertised the kits here in the parts for sale section and will soon be putting them on ebay again.

As I remarked before, I like your work. My early working life after my appreticeship was involved with press toolmaking so appreciate the decision you made on this next batch with the special tooling.

There is no doubt your equipment must work well on the 356. Its only the fact that I have spent so long finally getting my 50 year old 6 volt system
working as it did 40 odd years ago that stops me from changing it.

Well done indeed. This equipment (and possibly an electric fuel pump which I still have yet to succumb to), would no doubt help to hide many problems that these old 356's suffer from.
