Fuchs on Auction site

Post by Greg »

These have just appeared on a local Auction site here in Japan. 15 inch, in 7J and 6J - said to be from a '67 911R.

First time I've seen anything like this come up, and wondering how the price stacks up against what might be available in the UK?

Asking price is just short of 2,500 GBP. Is that reasonable, or not?

I've got no real use for them at present, but have been inspired by some of the cars I've seen on DDK to start thinking about getting another car to do some outlaw-type modification to.

Hi Greg,

Having trouble reading the description without my specs

If they are 7R fuchs, and are straight, then that is a good price. 7R fuchs are around 1k- 1.2k each.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks for the responses Dave and Tim. They are being sold from a fairly remote part of Japan, and I have no contacts nearby to look at them. The blurb says they have been "restored" and from the pics they don't look bad.

I really don't have an immediate use for them, but am very tempted - they are just so rare in this country it almost seems a pity NOT to buy them! The ever present threat of divorce when I make purchases like this is one potential constraint, of course . . . . Five days left to see how brave I really am.

Cheers

Well, at the end of the day, I couldn't help myself. I bought them. Still not sure what I'll do with them, but finally decided I couldn't live without them.

It is alleged they are from a '67 911R, but who knows - certainly not me.

Wonder if anyone can make anything of the little I can read on the inside of the wheels?

On the 7s, everything has been ground off. I can see where there has been something, but impossible to tell what.

On the 6s, one is fairly clear - on one of the spokes is an inverted triangle, a rectangle and 6J X 15. On the spoke next-door, is what looks like 901.361.012.06, and underneath that (maybe) AS1 61 then a large space, then (maybe) 2671o

The other 6 is not quite as clear, but appears to follow the same pattern.

Not the most brilliant pics, but they really do look nicely finished.

And by the way, what tyre size would the 7s take - I would assume 205/60R15 or thereabouts?

Cheers

Greg

I believe the front wheels on a 911R should be 901 361 012 03. Maybe Andy will confirm.
901 361 012 06 are deep six wheels for 2.2 litre models and should have a date stamp 68/69/or 70. Again , willing to be corrected.

Looks like the 7 inch is a 7R. Has it a date stamp?

Regards
Mike

It's correct that the 7Rs have the numbers ground off the back. They were made by "spinning" standard deep sixes to widen them. Have a look at the date stamps, hopefully they will be dated '67.

Thanks very much Mike and Nick.

I'll have to have a look again tomorrow - if the blizzard outside abates and I can dig my way to the garage!! Looks like some of your weather has finally reached here. It is just amazing tonight. But I digress.

I thought I had seen all there was to be seen on the back side of two spokes on each wheel. But if there is a date stamp, where is it likely to be? Grateful advice where to look.

While the faces of the wheels have been quite nicely refurbished, the inside is just black and - to my amateur eyes - impenetrable.

Greg

Date stamp on the reverse side, as close to the centre hole as you can get, on the curved surface between the petal backsides. Should be a three or four figure number.

Hi,

In case a few more pics/info helps.

I have seen/had 7/15 R rims dated 67, 68, and 70. It seems that all these early 7s have become termed as 7R rims. I have seen them with numbers and details ground off and some with details (but with just the 06 of the part number) ground off.

Eg these are from a 7/68 and 10/68 early 7

There is also a theory that these wheels were made in batch only on certain months, the 7th and 10th month are dominant.

As for tires, I have early7s on my 71 car. Those are dated 7/70 and run 215 tires. 10mm spacers and none rolled arches.
