James,

I still have my original carpets! But I have seen some listed. I have no idea of the quality and only those who have bought can advise.
I have seen the carpet sets ( they do not include floor carpets as they were normally rubber mats)

www.stoddard.com supply from original German material in six original colours red,Green,Blue,Tan,Biege and black. On the info I have no prices are given and they would need your chassis number.
Note! if you read their description on the "body" section of their on-line catalog ( carpet sets) Biege refers to "oatmeal" and Black to "Charcoal"

All of their carpet is bound with cotton twill with herringbone weave for coupes.

www.rogerbrayrestoration.com also can supply sets with German material or a standard domestic material . From the info I have probably a little out of date their prices were £537 for the German version and £246 for the domestic.

There are several other suppliers in the States and no doubt others in the UK. ( I don't know if PRS services do them or could advise. That might be worth while you asking them.

I have never seen template drawings wirth dimensions for carpet pieces.

Someone no doubt must have bought some over here.

Thanks for the reply Roy - I had checked out the Stoddard's site and noticed no pricing info and assumed that they would probably be LHD - anyone managed to get RHD supplied by them?

Didn't see anything on Bray's website, is that info from their hard copy catalogue? I have a copy too thats a good few years old and tbh usually just go on their website now - think I'll give Mark a call

Anyone know any others? Are all Southbound's bespoke work or anyone know if they do a kit?

James,

As the Stoddard sets do not include floor carpets would the LHD and RHD items not be the same? The Roger Bray items are shown in their hard copy catalog. Actually is it only floor carpets you are thinking of?

Sorry should have been clearer - yes a full set, including floor carpets and then put the rubber mats over the top.
Now spoken to Bray's - appears they use an oversees (?American) supplier anyway on an individual order basis (they dont stock sets) and send a RHD template over for the floor mats - updated price for the square weave (German) set is £569, Floor set £379 and RHD front rubber mats £241 - this aint gonna be cheap

It would appear wiith duty and shipping Stoddard's is about £500 for the standard (not including floor carpets) set

James,

Maybe I should mention if you buy carpets for the floor and then put rubber mats on top they might tend to move around all the time ( slipping under foot pressure )

It's unlikely they will have screw retainers to hold them in place. I can say the International Mercantile rubber mat set I bought (uncut) for RHD direct from the states was reasonable in price ( around £250 with VAT and carriage for front and the 2 back mats) and fits so well. ( I had to cut the slots for the brake and clutch etc. )

This Mercantile product is thicker than the original and very heavy. It lays exactly where put and never moves with any foot movement.

I really like their product.

The picture shows the front mat. It still has of course the indentations for LHD from the moulding but the indentations have not been cut out.

James,

In donney there is a dude who can sew together whatever you want. What about sourcing the square weave material and him making up a set based on your old mats?

Andy Prill is just sorting out some carpets for my 356a as although it had a brand new set in. they were made of some cheap modern fluffy manmade carpet. which didn't do the car justice at all.

i understand Andy (after trying many) Uses a German supplier to make the carpets sets up for him.

I had some carpets custom made by PR Services to cover the original mats in my RHD A. They fit really well too!

Hi James,
If you look back at the previous post by Peter Roberts he has now found the website for Dopper (well done) and I've just looked and they have a lot of square weave stuff but there is no reference to 356. It is 56 euro/metre for a 2 metre width and I can't imagine needing more than a 2 metre length, i.e. about 4 sq. metres.
The name was given to me by Rudi Wenzel in Germany who I've bought bits from for 20 years so I think it will be the correct stuff.
My son has an unmolested C and we plan to use his carpets as templates. However I'm not sure how the A differs from the C - does anyone know?
On my last car (a C) I opted for full carpets but I copied all the old stuck on stuff and simply replaced the rubber mat with a carpet version all nicely edged around the pedals etc. and it looked quite good. I remember using a small rubber/plastic mat sewn in below the pedals as a heel pad. Not for the purists though. I also stuck some industrial rubber sheet to the floor to provide some deadening - not easy because I had to stick individual rectangles into the pressed shapes first and then cover the lot!
If you go for carpet on the floor you need to consider that the original rubber mat provides a lot of sound deadening.

Hi I have just had a factory original set of carpets in square weave made for a 1965 912 RHD , they were made by Dave Nunn at Southbound and are fantastic quality. I am sure he has all the patterns to make a set of 356A carpets.
Cheers Dave
