DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

THIS POST IS JUST REGARDING CAMPING OTIONS ----- details of the full ticket package, how to book etc will follow when I have put all the info together.




I am just sorting out the finishing touches to DDK CLM Ticket package.

We have 2 options for camping and rather than me decide, I thought I'd better just see what DDK opinion was.



At this stage, approx costs are : ( final costs WILL be LOWER )


Karting Nord = £150 - £165 / person based on 2 people in a car ( entrance ticket + camping )

Maison Blanche = £121 / person based on 2 people in a car ( entrance ticket + camping )


NOTE : These prices are in-line ( a little bit more) with what you would pay direct with ACO ( LeMans organisers)

Paddock passes , grandstands & tracklaps will also be available as part of the DDK package but this post is JUST REGARDING CAMPING & WHERE WE WANT TO BE

My personal preference is we should use Karting Nord & club camping ...... positives are superb location, we can all camp together & have a central meeting place , good neighbours etc ...... but it would mean we would need to organise the layout of camping & cars so we could all fit on the area easilly enough

Option 1 :

Karting Nord = Club Camping ONLY

For the 2010 Le Mans Classic, the ACO has allocated Karting Nord as a site for large groups/cubs that want to have space for their members together, and be able to have a communal area with a marquee, but do not want the all the facilities of a private camping area.
Karting Nord is located inside the circuit and a short walking distance from the start/finish straight, circuit village and Bugatti Paddock areas. It is also possible to watch the racing from the front of the campsite. On Karting Nord there will be toilets and showers available to all campers (similar to the general public camping sites). Clubs will also be able to have communal areas (such as a marquee) erected on the area for use by its members. The perimeter of the area can be marked with barrier tape or similar and the area would be self managed by the club.
Based on the anticipated number of cars, we would recommend an area of between 2,500m2 and 3,000m2. This would be sufficient to cater for between 40 and 60 cars and a 100m2 marquee. We would mark the perimeter of the area and provide staff at assist with the arrival of cars. The club would then be able to manage the site independently.



Option 2 :

Maison Blanche / Bleu Nord - Public Camping

General Public Camping at Maison Blanche or Bleu Nord
There will be two campsites available for general public at the Le Mans Classic, namely Maison Blanche and Bleu Nord. The sites will have numbered pitches, which enables 1st Tickets to allocate concurrent spaces for the club. They are 7m by 5m and arranged in rows two spaces deep. Both these sites are close to the circuit and a short walking distance from the Start Finish straight, Circuit Village and Bugatti area.
Maison Blanche is a large site that utilises the in-field and run-off areas of the Maison Blanche racing circuit that is used for track days and club events. It has the advantage of being within the circuit boundary and access to the site is by production of your general admission ticket as well as the camping permit for the vehicle. It is also possible to watch the racing from this site with views of the track from Porsche Curves and along the straight opposite the Karting Nord campsite. Some of the pitches are very close to the 24 Hour track and for the lucky campers it is possible to watch the races from your pitch. The pitches are all allocated numbered pitches and there is a temporary toilet and shower block plus a permanent block near the campsite entrance. There are also water pipes along the back of the campsite.
Bleu Nord is just outside the circuit boundary and runs from Boulevard des Italiens to the Airport boundary. It is a large campsite with mainly sandy ground and a gentle slope from the Airport end towards the main road. Pitches are arranged in large blocks from the airport towards the main road. There are temporary toilets and showers at two locations on the site.
From our discussions with the ACO, it will not be possible to erect a club marquee on Maison Blanche and Bleu Nord. However, if the club is not planning to provide a communal area, then these sites are very suitable and require a limited amount of club involvement.

Nord sounds like a good plan James....now's who's gonna bring the 52" plasma?

where did we camp last time. I thought that worked very well as you could watch the racing and get into the complex even while drunk.

Where we where last time was spot on, just far enough from the track to not get run over by GT40s, and far enough from the bogs not to get gassed.

But close enough to the track to wander from your tent with a brew at 5am to watch some racing, and close enough to the bogs for a 'panic' French toilet moment!

we were in Karting Nord in 2008. We were in Maison Blanche 2004 & 2006

nord for me then. I thought it was a great spot. I'll start saving now!

Karting Nord was great last year. My vote goes for the same again.

Karting Nord sounds good to me...gets my vote.

just to add ..... these prices are not final prices , I'm still working on getting better pricing ( cheaper !! )


As mentioned in my 1st post , this is about wether we want club camping or not.

The way things are looking I'm going to pursue the club camping option

but do not want the all the facilities of a private camping area.

I realise you say later that toilets and showers are available, so I'm a little unsure what's meant by this.

Phil - it probably refers to the Burger/chip vans.

My vote is for Karting Nord too ...

Would members who have other arrangements be able to get into Nord? I'm taking the wife and two boys so space is a premium in the old girl, thus we have hotel reservations, we would still like to join in the fun but sounds like maison/bleu would prevent access to non camping members cars, for me Nord is ideal but I won't be camping.

Karting Nord for me too - last year was great.
