To say they only made 35 they're a bit like buses these things at the moment, thats the third this year isnt it

Funnily enough this one is also for sale in Leicestershire !

I can't agree with this statement :

" there isn't a nut bolt screw or part on the car that has not been restored to original glory"

- many of the components on this car were never finished that way by the Factory... too much 'bling'.

How sad am I getting?!!

I can now spot what is correct and what is not correct on a swb car!

Pretty poor advert, workshop looks decidedly ropey and pics next to skips?

Anyway it means I can add another 0 to the end of the price of mine...woo hoo!

This car has been sitting at the GCR workshop in Leicester whilst being finished to the owner's satisfaction. The car has been renovated by the owner who has a concours background. A lot of the bits have been overfinished to rather a 'bling' finish (that's what the owner likes) which the purists will hate but everything on the car from the shell upwards is immaculate and the car has a lot of correct original bits on it (e.g carbs, interior parts, correct wheels, etc).

It looks to be a very nice car but unfortunately when it comes to selling, the type of buyer that is prepared to pay top money (which I think this car is advertised for), will almost certainly be looking for total originality (& that includes having the original Factory finish - particularly on the main/visible components).

I totally agree with you. This car is a real conundrum.

On the upside it's a genuine UK RHD 1968S (chassis 11800468) with the correct matching numbers 901/02 engine (number 4080521). The majority of the parts on the car are correct original parts. Engine looks all original other than oil fed tensioner update and turbo lower rocker covers. Full original elephant hide interior. Correct sized Fuchs. Wiring & fuse boxes. Door handles & trim. Engine grill. Early bonnet badge. Etc. Then there is a full photographic record of the restoration.

Against all that it's got the other side of the coin which is incorrect finished parts and most important the colour. The car was given a full respray in Polo Red a number of years ago but the original colour for this car was Tangerine. The car would be more desirable in Tangerine but the Polo Red paintwork is immaculate (and the car does look gorgeous in Polo Red) so would you want to change it now.

I don't follow that markets, especially SWB, but would be interested in peoples' opinion of what price this car is worth taking into account the facts above.

PS the car is fitted with H1 lights - was 68 the first year these were fitted? I have been told various years for when the H1 was introduced.

Well one thing is or certain and that is if Chris at GCR did all the restoration it will be superb and he really knows his onions on these old cars (although I've taught him a few things on the 67S...but thats only because Mike is a walking bible on spotting 67S technicalities!!).

Obviously a few shiny parts are not the right finish but how much difference does that really make in price? They can be sorted if need be.

Non-original colour will knock off a few k because thats what it would cost to revert it...then again if someone is actually after Polo Red it won't affect price at all.

How much is it worth? Depends on how much someone will pay. Interestingly though prices of these cars in UK seem to be getting closer to euro and US prices now.

I was on mobile.de the other night and there were only three 67S on there.....at 80k euro, 80k euro and 120,000 euro! Eeeek.

But then when a correct toolbag is going for nearly $2000 what do we expect??!!

Fortunately all the cars coming to market seem to be RHD...I NEED to sell my 67S when finished and don't want the market flooded!!!

It's not worth as much as Philip's 67S IMHO because of originality issues and the fact that it is a colour change and because LYVy is a low mileage car with matching numbers too.

I don't know if Philip's is underpriced or this car is overpriced but if it were my money I would think the cars values are reversed.

This is all meaningless anyway because as Jason says it is what someone will pay and despite what we may think the above car might be just what someone is looking for and the price affordable.
