DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

It is apparently a 1962 1600 's'. Does anyone recognise the body kit and your thoughts please on its worth. It is a matching numbers car with complete interior but obviously looks awful.

I have no idea what 'body kit' that is, tbh would you put your name to it? The question is what was done to the front and rear clips to give the wide arches and bumpers
Do you assume it still has some of its original suspension + brakes from that photo (or do you have others?) I suspect they're not all there
Needs a luggage compartment lid obviously
Needs interior
plus then new wheels
Assume needs the matching numbers gearbox and engine rebuilding
etc etc
oh and plus paint and RHD headights/lenses if you want to use it in the UK
(and its a B - ducks for cover )

In short there is an awful lot of work and money in turning that back into something that resembles how it left Stuttgart

Of course many a restoration is done without financial gain as the goal, but unless it is an absolute steal to buy I would be tempted to move along to the next one - nothing to see here.

I'm with James - in order to fit those arches and accommodate the geometry for wheels that size, I would suspect the damage to the clips has been enormous

Unless you're either an eccentric billionaire with a philanthropic attitude to bringing things back from the dead, I'd walk away.....

For $50 i'd take it. For $51 i'd run... very fast

Rustbucket's car was like that when he got it so he's the best person to ask what is involved. apart from putting it back to 'normal' what else is wrong with it and what will you find when do!!! What else will you need to put it back to rights trim etc. It will all add up.probbably lots of bondo to make it look that smoothso will that be hiding stuff underneath???

I presume that it will be worth what the part are you could take off the car and how much they are worth.

Start with a car that's in better condition and you are more likely to finish it!

Or you could fix it up and say it was a transition from 1960 to 1980 missing out the 70s! at least you would be the only one driving around in a cool car

it wouldn't be that bad without the front bumper and school disco light box below it ........

with a little lateral thinking it could scream pre RSR perhaps ??

Only my opinion but I reckon its an OUTLAW waiting to ROB you of all your cash.

So ianj, how much $ is it up for?

Price is about $5k. Which i sure you you could probably get back in the parts. What is a complete 's' engine worth? Do I want the hassle???

Not worth $5k in parts - even now I reckon. I went through the hassle of breaking a B and there's not much of a UK market for ropey box's and mystery blocks. Not sure there would be many useful panels under that fugly plastic kit either. Avoid the hassle, leave it in the US to rot in peace

I beg to differ- mine was almost the same, the arches had been cut out, and filler and copper pipe used to make the 'flares'.;-
My thought is that if you cut the arches off you are no worse off repairing replacing them than if they were really rusty.

The rear bumper was 'smoothed' off into the rear again with solid filler and newspapers.
5k might be worth it, if you want the work.

Good point: if you're starting from scratch the base condition doesn't really matter... if you like a challenge that is! Can't see any profit potential in it though as it stands...
