Hello all,
What a great site, there is so much information about these wonderful automobiles on here.
I know its cheeky to ask a question straight off, but...........I was hoping for some advice from the very experienced forum members here.
I have always wanted a classic porsche as a daily driver (901 shape) and I was interested in opinions regarding the practicality of a 912 for every day transport? or am I just being unrealistic. I have no garage so the car will be exposed to the elements. I live near the sea in Bournemouth, Dorset.
I also would really appreciate some advice on what to buy, I am not a mechanic, so the car needs to be mechanically reliable and tidy. Do I need to consider something with a engine and gear box rebuild as a prerequisite and will the car require any previous special bodywork restoration (bear metal respray, E dipping etc...) to not rust away whilst sitting outside my flat under a cover. Yearly running costs for this kind of vehicle would be of interest (basic servicing etc....)to keep the car in the best of condition and tune.
Any advice on people or dealers who could steer me in the right direction for my dream purchase? or help me source it would be greatly appreciated! I do not believe my experience with classic cars would be enough to ensure a solid purchase.
The prices of late seem to be all over the place and I was wondering if £9000 - £14000 (912 Registry source) is still a realistic amount for an excellent 912 in good order?
Any help with the above would be warmly received and greatly appreciated ... Johnny 5
