My new 911

Whilst I am not new to DDK (although I really should pay my subs!!) I do have a new car.
Being pretty keen on Porsches in the last 15 years I have onwed a 1980 SC, a 1989 3.2 Carrera, a 1973 911T/E (in bits) and a 69 912.
Since selling the '12 late last summer I have been looking for a nice 911. My plan was very much to get a stock standard car. It usage is purely pleasure.
I looked at a few, contemplated a resto and got serious about 3 potentials:
- 2.2S that was on DDK a few weeks ago - heart nearly won over head
- 2.4T/E that is being repainted having come over from the US. Seen it in its naked state - very solid - unknown mechanicals
- Then this yellow dream machine
Its obviously not stock.
The history is:
- Registered 1/7/71. Interesting the reg's in one digit on from the blue S that is currently for sale at Export 56.
- Original RHD 2.2 911T Lux, in Blut Orange. (Thanks to Ian for this info)
- The car went to N Ireland in 94.
- Was painted grey at some point.
- Restored to its current state between 1996 and 2001 (judging by the reams of parts invoices - c£18k) by a classic car restoration business in NI for the businesses owner.
- As well as the body being totally restored to within an inch of its life and the wings etc changed to look like an RS, the engine was rebuilt and the interior sorted including RS seats (make unknown but very comfy) RS door cards and black headlining.
- The mileometer was zeroed. The car has now done 10k since resto.
- The guy I bought it from had owned it since 2006.
So, body wise is very good, paintwork is excellent. Mechanically seems strong and interior is lovely.
Things to do:
- Gearshift adjustment, new bushes - done that already.
- New grab handles and one door button - done that already as well.
- Adjust the handbrake - seems like a complicated job for what it is!!
- Steering column cowl - got the wrong sort - anyone got one they want to sell?
- Guard underneath the steering rack is missing - again anyone got a straight one they want to sell?
- Fit a front compartment carpet set.
- Sort out the clock and the oil level gauge (no wires coming off the oil gauge!!)
- Sort hazard warning switch and indicator switch (tempremental on right turns!)
- Find and fit a electrical gubbins cover on the LHS of the engine bay.
- Rev counter goes mad past 4500 when accelerating - any ideas??
- Change the radio for a Blaupunkt
- Maybe fit a Prototipo and for fun try it for a while with a flat rear lid.
- Drive and enjoy it - not difficult!!
The day of the collection was an adventure. Four countries in; England, NI, ROI (Dublin to HolyHead ferry), Wales and back to England. 380 miles in total. I left home at 7am and was back home by 7.45 - immense fun.
