Harlow Calling Civilisation - Hello from a new member.

Hi guys (and gals?), a few words by way of introduction. Having heard a lot about DDK from the Impact Bumpers site I thought I’d join. I’ve also joined the Pelican site, too.

I live in Harlow, Essex, am a PCGB member and occasionally frequent the club meetings in Chelmsford.

I had a 2.7 944 from 2000 to 2008 but had always lusted after a 911. In late 2008 I succumbed, not only to a 911 but also let my heart rule my head a bit and naively put my trust in the good reputation of a dealer rather than stand back and take an objective view – and get an independent inspection!

I purchased on condition (it’s a 1985 3.2 Carrera) which seemed pretty good to my starry eyes at the time.

So I bought a 911 Targa Super Sport, in black and admit it looks the dog’s danglies. But it seems that after some initial problems which, to be fair, were addressed by the dealer, I seem to have spent the rest of the time putting more and more things wrong and putting them right. Currently the wipers blow the fuse when switched on.

Fortunately the car is a proper garage queen so I don’t need to use it every day, only for ‘pleasure’ if that’s the correct term in the current circumstances. I like the performance, the braking and the involvement; I don’t like the noisy roof or the 915 gearbox, if I’m honest. So, all in all, not an ideal introduction to the world of 911 ownership but I think my selection process next time would be a lot better.

I am impressed by the variety of cars on DDK and also by the variety of questions and queries the members raise. What’s the saying about the most stupid question is the one you don’t ask? Car forums are special in the amount of knowledge from within – it’s nice to know you are not alone!
I look forward to continuing participation on DDK and will endeavour to post some pictures of my car assuming I don’t torch it if I cannot fix these bl**dy wipers!!

Regards to you all.

 Hi and welcome to DDK. your message made me smile as i think most of us here have a love/hate relationship with our cars. that seems to be half the fun.
bit like my other half. he drives me mad but, i couldn't live without him.

if your only problem is the wipers then your laughing....i'm sure the car will think up a more worthy/challanging problem soon    .

of cause what you really need if you like a good challange is a pre 1973 911

Hi Les and welcome from fellow essex boy.

I'm sure I've recently read another thread where someone else was having the same wiper problem. I think the advice given was to lubricate the mechanism...too much resistance on the motor blows the fuse.

As Helen says we really need to tempt you into a pre '73 but maybe you could "back date" your '85.
