Had help & company from fellow DDK'er, 58a-71e, who got a couple of better photos & a nice little video clip of my BMW struggling  on the Hard Knott pass

BTW, the weather was crap !

Tim, the prevailing wind is west - east so you could kite board the whole way ( if the Targa isn't ready ;) ) ...

Richard Hammond's Blast Lab did a Kite powered car test. It reached 15 mph ! and was proved to be faster than a kids bike !!
I will have the 911 fixed by September !! (Probably shouldn't say that with so much confidence, it has been off the road since Nov 2005 !)

My only memory of St Bee's is doing inter-county cross country running, similar conditions! I think there is usually a sunny afternoon in late July but thats about it...

Been over Hardknott on a bike (pedal kind), I'd better get to work on the hand brake...stunning place though!

Hard Knott & Wrynose are stunning .. what I would class as an 'experience' road

It will be the suggested route to Ambleside , but people must make sure they are travelling in a small group .... it is a pain when you meet cars coming the other way.

The earlier the start in the morning the better
