Another A waits around

Hi All
this little chap has been patiently waiting around for around ten years for someone (me) to weld a new bottom in him , what is the record for the longest stalled project? Its front and rear are really very good but the centre section is badly rotted out.

Nice straight looking shell
My A is now 6 yrs and counting on its resto...
I checked the paperwork on it the other day ...It will be 50 on the 13th of March
Before I bought it in 2001, it had been stored /parked /barned since 1966 ...so its now 43 yrs since anyone has driven it ...so 86% of its life spent parked ...tragedy

Definitely looks a lot better than mine does under the paint
I'm only 2 years in and hoping to have it done some time in 2010 so nowhere near as long as that poor forgotten soul, perhaps it needs a change of scenery

My speedster had been dismantled to allow a doors off ,engine out respray ,the repaint was done then it sat for 34 years waiting to be put back into one piece!!
10 years seems quite quick really -dont want to rush into anything now do you...

Hi All
the front and rear are really very good but the middle and and to a lesser extent the doors are shot to bits with the spine being a bit of a doiley , anyone got some "A" post sections ,the windscreen part, they're not too good . The shape under the dust sheet is a V8 Aston that has had an awful lot of work done but the guy ran out of money when it came to the engine but I will be back on it soon.

Oh... still looks good to me. Saw far worse 30 years ago, so look at some on the "samba" and get the incentive or get someone to look at the parts that really frighten you and make a start. That car is better than money in the bank use some of that if you have any and it will give you " more interest in the end" if you get my pun.!
Hig, Your car and mine must be almost brothers ( or sisters??) as my car 106954 was given its Factory Sonnenschein battery guarantee card on the 17-3-59! What is your chassis number?
I was told once the battery guarantee card was stamped by Porsche it was ready for shipment.

I can check the chassis number but I don't know if its a '58 or '59 and it belongs to a friend of mine who is waiting for me to weld it up, another friend has a RHD '59 and a few years back I had a RHD '58, I think it was built in june, and shipped off to south Africa.

Roy ...Your car mustve been made for an Irishman with that Birthdate.
Mine is Chassis # 86091 (Different chassis maker ...Drautz) but it could still have been side-by-side . It is is 13th March 59 from Kardex .
It might be easier to line them up by engine number ...
Mine is also a 356 Super engine #83514.
It was a great car to strip down as it had factory green crayon on all of the panels ,On the bonnet frame, inside doors , under dash leatherette etc the D was for drautz and the 91 is the last 2 digits of the serial number.

I have been trying to work out why 17th March 1959 means it should have been sold to an Irishman? I am usually the last one to see the joke so it would be nice to know the reason!
My super engine is 83602 not so far from yours. Interesting isn't it.

Hi,
Time for me to chime in a apologise for not doing something with the poor old girl sooner!
We must make a start! How hard can it be??
Chasis number is 102411 and I think manufacture date is something like Aug or Sep 1957

how hard can it be indeed , thats why the racer that only needed a bit of work is festering not thirty feet from your car , maybe they could be done in time our retirement ............

How about we do them this year and go on a jaunt over to Europe next year?
Maybe drive the roads from the opening scene of 'The Italian Job' and plan to attend Classic LeMans?
What's the white one need?
