Does anyone subscribe to Glass's Guide?

Need a new everyday vehicle and would like some current valuations.

i dont think the trade are even using the guides at the moment; the market is in such turmoil and prices fluctuating so much that its not very predictable..

best bet for "actual value" is probably ebay or auctions because thats what people are willing to spend!.. I've seen cars advertised for effectively the same price as 12months ago, but they've been on the market for 3months because similar cars are actually selling for 2/3's of the price at auction..

yes i have , let me know what you require cars are now on the rise and are making very strong prices in the trade , a big shortage of cars around due to the values droping so much some people not/or cant (due to being neg egg) sell there what they have peter

The trade are using the Guide - as a guide. When stock is short they buy into Guide. When it's ample, they buy behind.

The used car market is hugely active at the minute. Some market sectors are well into book, not everything but quite a lot of stuff, particularly small and lower medium (Golfs, Astras etc). 4x4s to retail at a sensible price point also very strong. Demand is well and truly outstripping supply.

Not everyone is paying the big bucks - some would rather wait and see who gets their fingers burnt. Most used car dealers are busy, but you don't read that in the papers surprisingly. Waste of time buying at auction at the minute: prices are through the roof in most places and stocks are limited (not so many part exchanges on low levels of new sales). 09 plate from Sunday on should generate some part exs.

You can get rough ideas on Guide Trade prices for free using some of our white label consumer sites - try this one. They're not exact Guide prices but close enough. March updates on white label sites should be live from the end of this week - quite a lot of prices going up.

surely this demand outstripping supply depends on what you're buying?.. I've seen prices of larger cars and more expensive cars drop through the floor in the last 6months; i was talking to a guy a couple of weeks ago who had lost 20k on a 335i convertible in 12months, but had no choice but to sell.. he couldn't get rid of it anywhere at any price and ended up selling it back to BMW leicester at that price (only 2k under what he was offering it) just to get rid!..

Whilst the 911 will be the daily drive for the summer by the time the nights start closing in I intend to have '04 S4 or M3 sitting on the drive.

im hunting for a BMW E39 540i Sport Touring.. was considering an Alpina B10 V8 but there are about 7 RHD tourings, so the chance of finding one is virtually nill, and I can't bring myself to put the dog on the back seat of a saloon!..

Consider an '07 Defender then - just driven to Austria and back in one, approx 2k miles total, it was v civilised.

Morning all - I'm also looking for a replacement "day" car as we are having our first baby in June and the Mini Cooper won't really work in those circumstances !

A 2005 A4 Avant 1.9 or 2.0 TDI seems about right. But I to fancy a smaller SUV thingy - maybe a BMW X3 or a VW Tiguan (although the VW is really too expensive at the moment I think. ) - don't know too much about them really though.

I'll probably go with the A4

Gary, if only i'd known. Just sold my B6 S4 Avant yesterday! Great car, I miss it already...

At least I've now ticked the V8 box!
