Looking for a project and wanted some advice on the following - What are the current prices of 356 project cars ? Does it seem that the market has slowed down ? but the prices seem over inflated and advertised cars are not selling? Would like some feedback on this subject for cars prices in U.K , Europe and the U.S.

Is the string NOS, of high load bearing ability and showing no signs of knotting?

I got mine for 2.5 k back in '98.

I haven't ever seen a worthy 'project' for sale less than 6 or 7k, and haven't seen a half decent project ( ie thats not just salvage!) for about 4 years.

Everyones mentioning 'old boy' network- which is where the good cars do the rounds.
Outside the usual 356 haunts is where you will spot the cheaper ones lurking, so cast your net far and bide you time!

The problem with 356's is that there were never that many to start with and they have had so long to rust, be crashed ,badly repaired , rust, etc etc so you cannot really say how much one should cost, there are rough guides in magazines but for such a rare and varied comodity they are not much good and work more effectively for MGB's etc where you can go out and view a fair number, a friend just bought a B coup'e as an unfinished project but with the body repaired and painted to a decent standard and paid less than ten ,but the motor is in bits and the seats etc need doing so it will still cost a fair bit of money to finish. If you want one you have to search all the various small ads, place wanted ads and if something turns up be quick, though not desparate, and be prepared to travel, and buy the best car you can afford not just one thats cheap and around the corner. There was a B coup'e in the ads on this site which needed a front floor section and some other bits but did have a rebuilt engine and was complete and here in the UK and did not seem bad value at all, that said if you could afford the RHD one that Mr Moulds advertised at £27000 that in comparison was better value still ...................

I got my first - an SC - in 1976 for £600, swapped my second - an early A - for £400 to me in 83, my third - the Police car - for about £5k in '89, and my fourth, another early A, for £15K in '01. I don't think it is wahat you buy them for, but what you spend on them. All but the last and the Police Car were rust buckets and the two that weren't were parts kits. All required significant money spent.

Only got one now though, thanks Helen, glad you are enjoying the Police Car. How are you doing witht he radio etc?
