I've been searching for a cylinder head temp gauge to replace the clock (that doesn't work) in my 14. I could only find stuff in the US or a £90 jobie at Coolair.co.uk, then eventually I came across this:

How cool will that look?
And it's only £41.
It will need two senders but they are £22 for the pair, so thats both heads being measured for the grand total of £63.

I'm going to phone them on Monday (just tried but closed for W/E) to make sure there aren't any problems with fitting to a car. They are a light aircraft parts supplier.

Also spotted this:

Which is a damed site cheaper at £5 per foot than the $28.5 each I paid Pelican parts! grrrr!

Also, I just spoke to a local VW engine builder, to get some gaskets and bits. I asked him if he could get me 71mm stroke by 96mm bore barrels and he said the Porsche ones are different to the std VW type 4 ones and wasn't sure if he could get them. Is this right? If not then I'll just buy the type 4 ones from VW heritage.

There's some cool stuff on that website!

Trouble is, the sender is only 4ft long, so you'll be pushed to get the gauge hooked up, even in a mid-engined car. Wonder if it's possible to get longer sender leads made?

I had thought I would simply splice some extensions in. On reflection I suppose this could affect the reading the gauge gives. I'll talk to them next week. Thanks for making that point.

I've used the same Westach gauges on my car. Dual CHT, Dual EGT, and Oil pressure/Temperature.

I've been very happy with them, though currently working to replace the 3 guages and an XD-16 digital gauge with single colour screen within my main combo gauge to simplify my dashboard!

Don't forget to buy the optional back lighting pack if you want backlighting.

Do you want to sell any of yours then?

Also re the sender question made by KS did you just splice extensions or did you get a specific length of sender & cable made up?

Cheers
