yes when.... I will need to crack on with my enigne rebuild in the next couple of months and get some miles in but yes when. I hear Stuggart is a nice place and also you can with out a waiting list so I am told get to go to the Merc Factory might as well take in the cars while we are there..

any one have any Porsche factory contacts I guess our best person I know of is Mike Smith

That's a must, it's the reason Porsche have built themselves a new museum!! I can post some pictures if you like.

I really would love to do this trip..I hope to have the Merc back for July from Ca.

I could take either..while you Porsche people try and stuff all your over night stuff in the tiny bonnet there and all the screaming from the engine and all that gear changing I could cruse along with my 2 ton tank in my arm chair

I loved the Mercedes museum, cant wait to head back to Stuttgart, defiantly going to do it in the 914 when its back together...

Me too, I took these in October 2007 and yes the lighting is not brilliant!

I'd always dreamed of going to the Porsche Museum, but never got around to it, until we ended up on holiday in the Black Forest. Stuttgart is a quick trip up the autobahn from there (depending how fast you drive of course )

This was back in August 2007, I didn't look online before we went because it was as last minute decision to go. Imagine my disappointment when I entered what I thought was the entrance hall to find out it was whole (temporary) museum - they we still building the new one just across the street!! I still made sure I spent a good couple of hours looking at around 10 cars!!

I will return some time soon and make my dream come true

Always thought these museums should have a car running on a rolling road, or massive treadmill or something. They could rotate the cars so there's a different one every few days or so.

Just imagine walking in to that museum, and you can hear the faint scream of an engine. You walk though, and in a room in the back is a 906 doing power runs.

Ohh yes!

Just sat there isn't really how these cars were ever meant to be.

Shame they are all restored to within an inch of their lives as well, like to see a bit of patina sometimes, some great stuff in the museum at Le Mans which look like barn finds, well almost.

Test track on the roof like the old Fiat factory would be grand.

Saying that though I'm up for a trip to Stuttgart.

Couldn't we contact the Press/Film/PR dept to get some pref treatment, they must do group tours?

Mark you seem to be on first name terms with the Director

(I know they didn't work for P but maybe they have a Club liason, or maybe that is Pink Cuddly territory?)

I forgot to mention the Porsche museum also has these sound chambers where you listen to a full blown 911, 904 or 917 at song.

While talking about museums, I have been to the following:
- Daimler - not as good as the old one
- Alfa Romeo - probably the best collection of cars I have seen
- Ferrari - small, and not brilliant
- Autostadt - VW group - pretty good and not just old stuff - includes at Type 57 SC Bugatti Atlantic coupe - I think this is a replica and not original as I have not seen any references to it on the internet

What I would like to see:
French museum in Moulhouse - the old Schlump brothers place - which is supposed to be fantastic and not more than a couple of hours from Stuttgart
BMW - they should have one, but not sure what is there.

I have some photos of the Merc, and Alfa museums if anyone is interested
