Advice/Opinions needed

On my Vintage racer project i am considering having the petrol filler cap coming through the bonnet, which i have seen on a number of cars.
What are your thoughts, are they a pain in the a@$ with water ingress maintenance etc.
Do you think they look good on a GT/outlaw type car as this will be.
Anyone got any pics.

Stephen - I use a 'through the hood' centre fill cap on my 911R-inspired car :
I used a stainless steel dog bowl (yes, really!) for the rainwater/fuel overspill collector :
I can usually supply new caps/necks/separate fins (awaiting new stock of caps/necks & looking at a new fabricator for the fins) :
