Hi there,

Well I've finally made it all the way to Porsche ownership :)

I live just outside Belfast and have competed in various from of motorsport for the past 30 yeears. Until a few years ago I concentrated on Hillclimbs, with varying degrees of sucess, having driven sportscars, single seaters and historic saloon cars, both at home and in GB.

Here's a pic of my Jedi Suziki at Garron Point on the Antrim Coast

Looking for a change I then moved into Classic Road rallying and bought a Lancia Fulvia HF 1600, which I ran for the past two seasons in the various Irish classic events, here we are on the 2008 TDC Classic

However, a 911 appeared on the horizon, and the Lancia had to go :D

So here it is, it's a 911T chassis, which has passed through various hands ( I'm told it arrived here from Scotland at some point) and never quite made it back onto the road. Along the way this 1970 car seems to have acquired a 1972 model shell (see side oil filler), so it's never going to be one of the "matching numbers" prime examples.

The chassis is totally sound and all the suspension bits have been rebushed and checked, so now its down to the engine & box. And guess what I have 2 !!

A 2.2S with a early 915 box and a 3.2 with the oil cooler 915 in tow. So it's decision time, which way to go?

I've put the 3.2 unit up on the For Sale section but to be honest I haven't totally decided to sell it, and might opt for the grunt of the big motor over the purity of the 2.2.

So it's nice to meet you all and I hope you don't mind if I ask a few dopey questions on the way

Hmm. There's no separate chassis and shell on 911. So this '70/'72 thingy is a bit confusing. Has someone changed the chassis number from older car  or just added the oil filler :) To me, and I'm not expert, the rear end looks like there's '72 parts and '70 parts on the front.

As you have motorsports back ground, and the car has a bit of mixed parts. I'd go for as lightweight as possible, maybe rotrod/ST/R/RS replica of some sort, or just sleeper looks outside. And use the 3.2 motor!

welcome to DDK 8)

the 2 engines are so different in charactor , your choice will depend on your ultimate aim for the car. A 2.2S is a true screamer and the kind of engine I love 8)

Hi Mike

Welcome to the forum from another northerner (exiled in Scotland :) ).

If your car does have the external oil filler then it's a 1971 'E' Series car and the decals etc on the back look about right for that year but I think it shouldn't have any chrome so the horn grills on the front are from an earlier car. If you post the chassis number here I'm sure one of the many sad people on this forum will tell what it really is

BTW I would got from the bigger engine 8)

Guys

Thanks for the welcome :)

Firstly can I say that unfortunately, that's not my workshop, I've a much more basic std garage !!

I've already asked re the chassis nr and it's coming up as a early 1970 model T, which obviously doesn't correspont with the side oil tank shell. I would suspect that the chassis nr was transferred at some point, but that said I'm not planning to represent it in future as anything more than a modified car, and I certainly don't intend to make it into a RS (See Pelican Forum for that saga). It's all here in print now anyway, so that's my way to a small fortune blown:)

It's been bought for some fun and to get a bit of competition use, just need to make my mind up on the final spec, but I have to say it's a nice puzzle to have :D

Hi Mike,

Another Northerner exiled in Cornwall - slightly homesick seeing the photo from Garron Point. I'm sure I've seen it in Speed Scene?

Go for the 3.2 - it's a fabulous engine in the lighter E series shell!
I've had one for 24 seasons now..............

It must be time to bring it back to Craigantlet again!

Do you know Mervyn Williamson (Classic rallies a 55 Beetle, MG etc)?

There's a lot of information and amusement on DDK - Enjoy!

Cheers! :drunken:
